Paramount has acquired an untitled film project built around the the 8-year-old chess prodigy whose refugee family had been living at a homeless shelter when he became the 2019 New York State Chess Champion.
Tanitoluwa Adewumi, or Tani, won first place for his age group earlier this year at the competition after only learning chess two years prior. His familyHis family moved to the U.S. after fleeing the extremist group Boko Haram in Nigeria and had been living in a homeless shelter.
The story of the Adewumi family will be published in three books set for spring 2020 releases from W Publishing. The script will be sourced from the books.
The movie’s producers are Day Zero Productions’ Trevor Noah and Haroon Saleem, State Street Pictures’ George Tillman Jr. and Bob Teitel, and Mainstay Entertainment’s Norman Aladjem, Deadline reports.
“It’s a story of love, peace, community and faith and the lengths parents will go to bring their family to safety and provide them a better life,” according to Deadline.
After his win, a GoFundMe raised over $160,000, allowing the family to move into a new home.

The Mandalorian
Challenging times are ahead for bounty hunters in Disney+’s The Mandalorian, which is set in the Star Wars universe. Beyond the borders of the New Republic, evil awaits. Catch this new series on Disney+ starting Nov. 12.
Knives Out
A detective and a trooper attempt to solve the mystery of a family patriarch in the comedy Knives Out. When the quirky relatives are questioned, they realize that foul play is to blame. But, who actually killed him? This movie, which stars Daniel Craig and Chris Evans, hits theaters Thanksgiving weekend.
The Witcher
Henry Cavill stars as monster slayer Geralt of Rivia in the fantasy Netflix series The Witcher. When a young princess poses as a threat, Geralt of Rivia must protect her from unleashing a greater evil. The Witcher hits Netflix on Dec. 20.
The Grudge
When a realtor walks into a deserted house, a bathtub filled with dark water lures him inside. The Grudge, a creepy movie about a supernatural spirit that kills people who encounter it, will haunt your dreams. The reboot film is coming to theaters Jan. 3.
The End of the F***ing World
The End of the F***ing World is coming back for Season 2. Based on the comic book series by Charles Forsman, it follows two teen outcasts who go on a violent journey to escape their troubled lives. The dark show returns to Netflix on Nov. 5.
Jumanji: The Next Level
The game is glitched, but the squad returns in Jumanji: The Next Level. When the players accidentally change bodies and face other challenges, they will have to make it out alive or die. The movie, which stars Karen Gillan, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black, hits theaters Dec. 13.
Hunters
Hunters, a new series about hunting Nazis, is coming to Amazon Prime Video soon. It’s executive produced by Jordan Peele and stars Al Pacino, and those are all the details we know so far.

Although Marvel revealed tons of Phase 4 MCU movies and TV shows back at San Diego Comic Con, a third Ant-Man movie was curiously absent. We figured the tricky relationship with Sony (although we didn’t know quite how tricky) would save a Spider-Man announcement for later. But why hold back Ant-Man? After playing a pivotal role in saving the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Endgame, was Paul Rudd hanging up his bug costume for good?
Nope. After a rocky start that saw the dismissal of geek director icon Edgar Wright and his years of work on the project, the Ant-Man franchise will in fact expand from tiny heist movie to full-on trilogy. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Peyton Reed, the director who has shepherded these size-changing superhero shenanigans, will in fact direct Ant-Man 3, probably coming in 2022.
There are no specific plot details, or explanation as to why the announcement took so long. But Paul Rudd is expected to return as Scott Lang. We’d be shocked if the rest of his supporting cast, from Michael Douglas to Evangeline Lily to maybe even Michelle Pfeiffer, don’t return as well.
One thing Ant-Man 3 will have to grapple with though is how the loss of five years has impacted Scott’s relationship with his now-grown daughter Cassie. Along with the traumatic emotional implications, many suspect this movie will also set up Cassie as her own shrinking superhero, Stature, for some kind of Young Avengers team-up.
And speaking of Spider-Man, another 2022 Marvel sequel tease with virtually no details is that the acclaimed, award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is getting a follow-up on April 8, 2022. Expect Miles Morales and all his interdimensional Spider friends to return (with hopefully new ones in tow). It sounds like the same creative team is behind this, too, so we aren’t worried.
