Luxury menswear brand Fear Of God and the iconic eyewear label Barton Perreira have teamed up to create a pair of opticals.

This is something new for Fear Of God as the label steps into accessory design. “I didn’t know much about Barton Perreira until I started wearing opticals and went on a hunt for what was going to be the best shape,” Fear Of God founder Jerry Lorenzo tells ESSENCE. While many of us do not get to work with brands we wear on a daily basis, Lorenzo, who has an extremely popular label was able to snag a collaboration that he was invested in even before the partnership came about. “I’ve been wearing Barton Perreira for at least like seven or eight years,” he exclaimed.

The Fear of God x Barton Perreira opticals are a classic rectangular acetate frame that comes in five different color ways: black, ecru, champagne, khaki, and linen. Using Lorenzo’s signature natural earth tone hues, the opticals include light gradient wash lenses and are available in two eye sizes.

“For this particular piece, we drew inspiration from the Barton Perreira optical frame that Jerry wears in his everyday design process,” said co-founder of Barton Perreira, Patty Perreira. “We focused on modernizing the classic rectangular shape by using Jerry’s signature natural earth tone hues with light gradient wash lenses,” Perreira concluded.

This launch comes after Fear Of God released the “GF” tee earlier this month in response to the wrongful death of George Floyd by the hands of the police. Fear Of God collaborated with Union Los Angeles, Noah NYC, Off-White, Awake, Just Don, Denim Tears, Pyer Moss and Melody Ehsani on a graphic tee in which all proceeds were donated to Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter.

The Fear of God x Barton Perreira capsule collection is available now online and in Barton Perreira retail stores.

Final MLB Season Updates?

http://www.thenerdelement.com/2020/06/22/final-mlb-season-updates/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=final-mlb-season-updates

I have some more interesting news about baseball. It appears that the MLB season is set to return this year. The commissioner will impose a 60-gm season if players can report by July 1 and agree on health and safety protocols. They also asked the players to respond by Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET and to make clear in that response to camps. Over the last two days, the MLB agreed to move expanded postseason in 2021 in order to address player concerns.

Stay tuned for more MLB updates

3 Men Indicted On Murder Charges In Death Of Ahmaud Arbery

https://www.essence.com/news/3-men-indicted-on-murder-charges-in-death-of-ahmaud-arbery/

On Wednesday, a Georgia grand jury indicted Travis McMichael, Greg McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan Jr. on murder charges in the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery.

According to CNN, the charges also include aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment. The jury that indicted the three men were enlisted prior to the judicial emergency that allows the courts to be open for critical and essential court services, only.

Arbery was killed on February 23, a few short weeks before the country went into lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic. The man responsible for his death shot him in cold blood as he was jogging through a Brunswick, Georgia neighborhood.

Arbery’s case was obscured from mainstream media until late April when a New York Times article detailed the case. Shortly after the publication, video of his lynching went public, sparking protests in the Georgia community where he lost his life. Travis and Gregory McMichael were eventually arrested. Bryan’s arrest followed weeks later.

mugshots of three white men indicted on murder charges in case of Ahmaud Arbery Travis McMichael, Greg McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan Jr. are alleged to have entrapped Ahmaud Arbery prior to killing him.

According to investigators, Bryan, the man responsible for the video recording of Arbery’s death is also believed to have used his truck to “confine and detain” Arbery a number of times leading up to the final moments the world witnessed on video.

Arbery was eventually shot three times — twice in the chest — as he tried to fight off his assailants. An agent with the Georgia Burea of Investigations testified that Arbery likely felt he had to fight the men off with his bare hands because he could not escape them.

Attorneys for all three men say their clients are not guilty and that evidence will vindicate them. Until then the men will be held in a Glynn County jail where they are being held without bond.

Cobb District Attorney Joyette M. Holmes said at a press conference announcing the indictment, “We will continue to be intentional in the pursuit of justice for this family and the community at large as the prosecution of this case continues.”

We’ve Been Shut in So Long We’re Being Nostalgic for … ’90s Taco Bell and Pizza Hut?

https://www.themarysue.com/pizza-hut-taco-bell-nostalgia/

Gidget, the Taco Bell dog

Nostalgia comes in many forms, and now it is showing itself in the way of … restaurants from the ’90s? And not even good restaurants, mind you. We’re talking about Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, and before you fight me about them being good, I said what I said. (I do love Taco Bell, but that doesn’t mean it is by any means good food.)

I’ll keep my nostalgia confined to the above picture of Gidget (the Taco Bell dog). Nothing but respect for MY fave.

But there is something so specific about what both Pizza Hut and Taco Bell were like back in the day, and Twitter has been filled recently with random tweets about the ’90s-era aesthetics of these establishments. Probably because who even remembers what a restaurant looks like right now?

The nostalgia comes, in a lot of ways, from our own lack of ability to go to ANY restaurants right now, hands down. If you think it comes from actually wishing we were all back in the old school Taco Bells, then you’re just woefully misunderstanding the feeling. I personally would rather not drink out of those white cups with the blue and purple design on the side again (you know the ones), but right now, I’d love to be able to just go anywhere without being overcome by fear of what any person near me was doing.

First, let’s talk about Taco Bell.

The design was weirdly geometric, had nothing to do with the food they were serving, and looked the same in every town. Seeing this picture sent me back to growing up in New Castle, Pennsylvania, and I’m almost positive this is not a picture from the small suburb of Pittsburgh.

The discourse that surrounded the Taco Bell debate started back in May, when a Twitter user said the change to modern-day Taco Bell establishments was a “disease of modernism.” (It is not that deep. It is a TACO BELL.)

It then spawned a Twitter conversation about how that was the modernism of the time (again, it’s not that DEEP) and also hit on the nostalgia of the ’90s and how many of us wish Taco Bell still looked like that.

Now, the conversation has switched to the Hut of the Pizza King—or Pizza Hut, if you will. Remembering the personal pan pizzas of days of old, “fans” of the Hut took to the internet to share their memories of mediocre pizza.

In my own defense, we had Pizza Joe’s in my hometown, so the Hut was not really where we wanted to go, but I did go to London while I was in high school and realized it was a fancier version there, and I still think about it to this day. But, my point is that I don’t really understand why we’re all suddenly remembering the big restaurants of the ’90s that still exist, but … I guess we just all really miss sitting in plastic booths and eating okay food because we can’t physically go to any restaurants right now without fear.
