laptop and hand writing

It’s November and so aspiring writers everywhere are going to spend the rest of this month doing what all writers love to do: furiously try and make deadlines, while hating everything they write.

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is an annual writing challenge to write a 50,000-word first draft during the month of November. The non-profit organization is celebrating its 20th year and expects more than 400,000 people to start their novel this month. It is a great way to finally just get your brainchild into the world if you want that level of commitment to deadlines..

Seriously, one of the things every writer’s guide tells you to do is just suck it up, put pen to paper or fingers to key and just make the story come to life. Don’t worry about it being perfect: just write.

It sounds simple and once upon a time, it was my least favorite piece of writing advice. It isn’t easy to just turn off that extra part of your brain and “just write,” especially when you have carried a story in your mind and in your heart for years. When you see scenes and sequences so clearly, but while typing it out it feels like instead of creating magic, you are just making a mess. I get it.

Yet, as I look at all the great work being put out, I realize that if you never try, you’ll never know. What is the point of having all these ideas if you never share them? How will you know you really suck if a Twitter thread or Tumblr blog hasn’t been made about you?

So I’m going to be throwing my hat in the ring with all the other NaNoWriMo people out there. All the writers reading this? This is our time. Write your novel.

Oprah Campaigning for Stacey Abrams in Georgia is the Best Thing You’ll See All Day

https://www.themarysue.com/oprah-campaigning-for-stacy-abrams/

Oprah Winfrey Stacey Abrams

With the midterm elections less than a week away, Americans are gearing up for one of the most important elections of our lifetimes. The silver lining of Trump’s election (if there is one) is that it has inspired a record number of women, and especially women of color, to run for political office. Democrat Stacey Abrams is currently running for governor of Georgia, and if elected, she would be the first African-American woman governor ever.

Abrams is a charismatic and well-qualified politician who represents the incoming wave of progressive candidates committed to making real change. As she battles Republican Brian Kemp and fights against Kemp’s alleged efforts to to suppress voting, she has gotten tremendous support from America’s queen herself: Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah joined Abrams on the campaign trail, speaking to crowds about the importance of voting and even canvassing door-to-door to talk to voters. As you can expect, the reactions are priceless:

Oprah also gave an impassioned speech in Marietta, calling on people to vote and saying, “For anybody here who has an ancestor who didn’t have the right to vote, and you are choosing not to vote — wherever you are in this state, in this country—you are dishonoring your family. You are disrespecting and disregarding their legacy, their suffering and their dreams, when you don’t vote.”

Other celebrities canvassing for Abrams include Will Ferrell and Michael B. Jordan:

Mike Pence, who was in town to stump for Kemp said, “I heard Oprah was in town today and I heard Will Ferrell was going door-to-door the other day. Well I’d like to remind Stacey Abrams and Oprah and Will Ferrell—I’m kind of a big deal too.” Okay, sure Pence, you’re the Vice President. But you’re sure as shit no Oprah.

What the Falcon/Winter Soldier Rumor Reveals about Cap’s Fate in AVENGERS 4

http://nerdist.com/captain-america-falcon-winter-soldier-avengers-4-nerdist-news/

We don’t know a whole lot about Avengers 4, and yet we have lots of information about other MCU projects coming out after Earth’s mightiest heroes’ second showdown with the Mad Titan. There are films and shows starring characters who are currently dead or dust, including Marvel-led limited series with Loki and Scarlet Witch set to air on Disney’s streaming service. Now a surprise–and telling–third series has been reported.

It will pair Steve Rogers’ two closest friends, Falcon and the Winter Soldier. If his best buds, who have butted heads in the past, are teaming up, what does that tell us about the fate of Chris Evans’ beloved hero in his final film in the franchise? On today’s Nerdist News, host Jessica Chobot explores what the unlikely duo of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes points to when it comes to Captain America‘s fortunes in Avengers 4.

Unlike Loki and Scarlet Witch, who have freedom to get prequel stories without causing major problems for the big screen films continuity, it’s hard to imagine Bucky and Sam working together in a world where Steve Rogers is still around. Does that guarantee Cap will bite the big one while fighting to bring back his Snapped friends? Or will they go looking to rescue him after he goes missing? Either way, could this be how one–or even both–of them end up as the new Captain America themselves?

We don’t know, but we can’t wait to find out. Well, not the part where we might have to watch Captain America die. No one is looking forward to that.

What do you think this pair’s mini series means for Cap’s fate in Avengers 4? Team up with our comments section below to let us know.
