Writer: Al Ewing / Artist: Robert Quinn / Marvel

That Old Man backkkk!! Young Cable has sacrificed his boyish good looks to save mutant babies and kick Stryfe’s ass, so now his older time traveling self is back in control and orchestrating legendary missions. Cable: Reloaded #1 is a bit of a slow read to start off, as you have to digest a bit of information if you haven’t been keeping up with Guardian of the Galaxy. Luckily there are some exciting things happening as you get caught up on Cable’s briefing.

Al Ewing is one of the best Marvel writers out here, so this was a guaranteed read for me; however, it’s great when you watch it all unfold so beautifully. I’ve digested a few Robert Quinn books (Way of X being the most recent) but I’m not quite sure what to make of the artist just yet. I dont know if it’s my inner X-Men: The Animated Series stan surfacing or what but Cable: Reloaded #1 gives me some good 90s vibes with most of that praise going to Quinn. In particular, Cable’s look could be ripped from a John Byrne comic, and I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

Cable Reloaded #1

This book is a classic case of throwing you in the middle of a mission, then pulling back the curtain to reveal the evil reasons why our heroes are leaping into action. I love Ewing’s narration throughout the book. He provides such a unique perspective with Cable’s old man memories being used and relied upon in 2021 (Epsilon something if you nasty). He knows the future lies. He knows the future is never set. That’s why he does what he does; to fight for a better future. That’s why he gets the X-Terminators back to steal some supremely heavy artillery in the fight to take out the Dread Dormammu who has his sights set on taking 5 magical planets.

There are some absolute gems scattered throughout this issue. Cable’s insight into his mission mates was incredible. Reading the details on future Rocket Raccoon was so enjoyable because you’re fully aware of how seriously geeked Cable, despite the cool head. Having old students like Boom Boom on his team was touching. Having new characters like Khora of the Burning Heart was equally dope. Honestly, most Arraki mutants have been amazing additions to Marvel, just like Cable: Reloaded #1 will be to the Reign of X, if this issue is any indication.

‘Darkhawk #1’ Review

https://blacknerdproblems.com/darkhawk-1-review/

Writer: Kyle Higgins / Artist: Juanan Ramirez / Image

I decided to give Darkhawk a shot because reviving old heroes is dope when pulled off the right way. Darkhawk #1 is drops 30 years after Stan Lee claimed he would be the greatest hero of the 90s. We all know how that turned out, but there’s always room for improvement when you’re working with a cool concept that died long ago. Kyle Higgins is the man in charge of the Darkhawk revival, and I like the job he did on this first issue. Room for improvement? Sure, but it’s clear Higgins has a handle on the high school and degenerative disease subject matter that is necessary to create a well written book.

Conner Young is a basketball star killin it during senior year. Luckily, the ability to sink buzzer beaters didn’t turn him into a pompous ass. In fact, Young is the kind of kid who understands the weight of his scholarship to Empire State and the value in giving back to the community. You get all that from Conner’s post-game interview, and this why I was confident this origin story would unfold nicely.

Darkhawk #1

In Darkhawk #1, We learn that Conner has MS (Multiple Sclerosis), and it is a crushing development for the kid who’s fully aware of the impact it will have on his chances to ball again during his last year of high school, or keep that scholarship he covets. A chance encounter with an amulet changes all of those things though, and we’re gifted with the rebirth of Blackhawk!

While I’m not sold on the costume just yet, I’m loving the plasma like talons that he can use during fights. I’m excited to find out if it will be the same advanced Shi’ar technology imbued with magic, like the OG Darkhawk, or if there’ll be some tweaks to Conner’s story. Juanan Ramirez does a pretty good job of bringing this tale to life and saves his best stuff for the action sequences and ball games, which I appreciate. Darkhawk #1 was a good first go with some room to get even better.

Rihanna Just Dropped The Trailer For Savage X Fenty Vol. 3

Rihanna just dropped the trailer for Savage X Fenty’s third show.

The singer’s first lingerie extravaganza for the lingerie line went down back in 2019. Big names like Big Sean, DJ Khaled and the Migos all performed, while the show itself had stars like Normani and Halsey walk the runway.

Last year, things got even more spectacular with its slew of performers, including Bad Bunny, Travis Scott, Rosalia and Miguel. The models included Willow Smith, Lizzo, Paris Hilton, Rico Nasty and more. The show also sparked controversy after some within the Islamic community criticized the usage of a song that featured scared Muslim Hadiths.

As MADAMENOIRE previously reported, Selah Marley also found the 2020 installment of the annual fashion show problematic, and accused the show of biting off visual concepts from her 2019 art exhibition, “A Primordial Place.”

Information about Savage X Fenty VOL. 3 — like who will perform, what models we’ll see, its concept, etc. — is still under wraps. What we do know is that it’s set to premiere via Amazon Prime Video on September 24.

Also, RiRi rocked some eye-catching looks in the show’s teaser. See it down below.
