So last week, I got some of the picks right and some of them wrong. For instance, I predicted that the Bills would beat the Chargers 26-17, but the actual score was 27-17 Bills over the Chargers. I predicted that the Chiefs would beat the Bucs in a shootout 35-30, but the actual score was 27-24 Chiefs over the Buccaneers. I predicted that the Dolphins would beat the Jets 41-26, but the actual score was 20-3 Dolphins over the Jets. I predicted that the Saints would beat the Broncos 31-13, but the actual score was 31-3 Saints over the Broncos. The Broncos’ quarterback situation did not go well on a blowout loss to the Saints. My prediction there was pretty close!! I predicted that the Packers would beat the Bears on Sunday Night Football 27-17, but the actual score was 41-25 Packers over the Bears. I predicted that the Seahawks would beat the Eagles 17-9, but the actual score was 23-17 Seahawks over the Eagles. I predicted that the Cardinals would beat the Patriots 33-20, but the actual score was 20-17 Patriots over the Cardinals. I predicted that the Rams would beat the 49ers 24-17, but the actual score was 23-20 49ers over the Rams and they have swept the Rams once again. I predicted that the Raiders would beat the Falcons 34-20, but the actual score was not even close. The Falcons blew out the Raiders 43-6. I predicted that the Ravens would beat the Steelers 38-24, but the actual score was 19-14 Steelers over the Ravens in a low scoring game. I predicted that the Colts would beat the Titans 38-31, but the actual score was 45-26 Titans over the Colts. I got 6 out of 11 picks correct!

Now let’s move on to week 13 picks, shall we?! The first game I will predict is the Jags @Vikings game. I think the Vikings will beat the Jaguars 31-17 because they seemed to be in a playoff race with other teams and they are starting to play much better. The next game I will predict is the Browns @Titans game. I think the Titans will beat the Browns 38-27. The next game I will predict is the Colts @Texans game. I think the Colts can beat the Texans 44-21 because I think that the Colts are going to bounce back from a brutal loss to the Titans and they need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The next game I will predict is the Lions @Bears game. I think the Lions will beat the Bears 26-19 because the Bears offense is continuing to struggle and they will struggle even more. The next game I will predict is the Saints @Falcons game. I think the Saints will beat the Falcons 32-25 in a shootout. The next game I will predict is the Rams @Cardinals game, a big divisional rivalry game. The Cardinals and Rams are coming off with losses last week. The Cardinals desperately need a win tomorrow against the Rams meaning they are in win now mode which I think the Cardinals will beat the Rams 27-17 to keep their playoff hopes alive. The next game I will predict is the Giants @Seahawks game. I think the Seahawks will beat the Giants 34-17. The next game I will predict is the Eagles @Packers game. I think the Packers will beat the Eagles 30-19 even though the Eagles won against the Packers last season in Green Bay 34-27, but not this time though. The next game I will predict is the Broncos @Chiefs game. I think the Chiefs win this game easily over the Broncos 35-10 on Sunday Night Football. The next game I will predict is the Washington Football team @Steelers game on Monday night football. I think the Steelers win this game 45-17 over the Football team. The next game I will predict is the Bills @49ers game also on Monday night football. I think the Bills will beat the 49ers 27-10. The last game I will predict is the Cowboys @Ravens game on Tuesday night football game! I think the Ravens will beat the Cowboys 38-25 in a much-needed win over the Cowboys.

So, what do you guys think about these week 13 picks?!

I would like to hear some comments, opinions, concerns, questions, or thoughts down below!

Stay tuned for week 13 updates!

The Holiday Season is Afoot! The Grindhouse @6pm EST on BTalk100; Did Past Black Capes & Sci-fi Movies Help/Hurt Future Flicks?; New HBO Max Radical Move; Letitia, Anti-Vaxxer? Naomi @CW & More

http://www.afronerd.com/2020/12/the-holiday-season-is-afoot-grindhouse.html

We're off to the Yuletide races, folks!  Happy Holidays and welcome to another fascinating episode of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast-airing this Sunday at 6pm eastern on the BTalk 100 platform. Listen to your "friendly neighborhood cyber radio hosts" as they unravel the following mysteries: thanks to a hat tip from Afronerd Radio supporter, Sergio Mims-we decided to do a "deep dive" into past black themed (or actor lead) sci-fi/superhero movies (Brother From Another Planet, Blankman, Blade) that helped (or hurt) the current explosion of genre black films like Black PantherWarner Media announced that they are moving their entire slate of 2021 theatrical films to their HBO Max streaming service in tandem with theaters as the COVID crisis continues; Black Panther actress, Letitia Wright (Shuri) found herself receiving internet backlash for her sharing of an anti-vaccine video on Twitter; noted graphic novelist and friend of the show, David Walker, continues to move onward and upward with the announcement that his (and Brian Michael Bendis) IP, Naomi is in development as a CW TV series; Oh and it doesn't hurt that filmmaker, Ava Duvernay is working on the adaptation;

Google has some 'splaining to do in the wake of the firing of black scientist and AI ethicist, Timnit Gebru purportedly over her questioning of the company's diversity protocols...hmm-maybe it's just a coincidence (ha..); Dburt is enthused about Crunchyroll's new Mesoamerica themed animated series, Onyx Equinox;  TheMarySue.com reports that the TV ratings system, Nielsen affirms that diversity is strongest streaming and genre television (and Dburt asks how does that connect to inclusion in ownership?); oh yeah....one of Afronerd Radio's favorite series, Warrior just finished its 2nd season with no third season announcement as Cinemax is closing their doors for HBO Max;  Is DC's Plastic Man finally getting a film translation or is there a gender bend with the casting? ; and in more HBO Max news, is the burgeoning streaming service going to develop international adaptations of their DC heroes for varied global territories?  And lastly, one has to ask-how do you confuse former President Barack Obama with a caricature of a rapper (all done in blackface, of course)?....just pose your questions to Russian television (just wow):

BTalk 100 Presents The Mid Week in Review (MWIR), Live Broadcast 6pm EST: Rashida Jones@MSNBC; Youtuber, Kevin Samuel’s Viral Brutality?; Human Steaks?; Nolan Rips HBO Max; Marvel’s MCU Multiverse & More!

http://www.afronerd.com/2020/12/btalk-100-presents-mid-week-in-review.html

B(l)ack by popular demand.....it continues to be the Holiday Season edition of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review (MWIR) as engineered by the good folks at BTalk 100.  Listen to a new episode this Wednesday at 8pm eastern.  The topical ornaments being placed on the Christmas tree this week are: a fellow Hamptonian, Rashida Jones (not to be confused with the noted actress with the same namesake) was just named president of the cable news channel, MSNBC;  popular Youtuber/Image Consultant, Kevin Samuels continues to ruffle feathers with his latest viral video in which he critiques a woman seeking dating advise.  Did he go too far?

A recent article in the NY Times, highlighted an exhibit at the Design Museum showcasing steaks that were purportedly created from human cells-sparking cries of interest and outrage;  legendary filmmaker, Christopher Nolan had some rather choice words relating to Warner Media's announcement about moving their entire slate of 2021 theatrical films to their HBO Max streaming medium;  with the latest news that respected actor, Albert Molina, will be reprising his Doc Ock character for the next Spiderman film, The Hollywood Reporter posits that the forthcoming "multiverse" storylines could forecast the Marvel's MCU going forward; and in more MCU, specifically Disney plus news, there appears to be some growing controversies on the set of the upcoming Ms. Marvel streaming series culminating into a #FixMsMarvel hashtag;  and what about the new trailer for American Skin by Nate Parker (Birth of a Nation) as presented by Spike Lee:

so folks are really going to have pop culture conventions when vaccinations for the COVID virus are just starting to roll out?.....enter Anime Dallas; picking up a few scraps that we failed to discuss from last Sunday's Grindhouse;  notable actor, Viggo Mortensen in a new Independent article, is still pretty sore about whitewashing criticisms levied toward his 2018 film, The Green Book;  Lastly, thoughts about upcoming VG release of Cyberpunk 2077, the alleged expansiveness of the game and how closely its development mirrors movie production.

Country Star Mickey Guyton Dishes Her Grammy Nod With Rissi Palmer On Apple Music’s ‘Color Me Country’

Color Me Country, a bi-weekly Apple Music radio show helmed by singer and songwriter Rissi Palmer, gives listeners a needed reminder that country music is a mosaic of Black, Indigenous and Latinx histories that have been long ignored in the mainstream.

Palmer’s latest guest on the show is the now Grammy-nominated country singer Mickey Guyton, where they touch on her latest historic accomplishment in a music genre that’s left Black contributions gone too far unnoticed.

“We first bonded as a part of a sisterhood who have been baptized by fire in this industry. We understand what the other has been through,” Palmer tells ESSENCE in a statement. “I admire her boldness to stand in and speak her truth and I am dedicated to supporting her in any way. After the year she’s had, I wanted to provide a safe space for her, no pretense or performance necessary. You hear the Mickey I’ve come to know personally in this show.”

Rissi Palmer hosts Apple Music’s Color Me Country

In this lively conversation, you’ll learn how Guyton’s ballad “Black Like Me” is the first song by a Black woman to receive a Grammy nod in the country category in 45 years. The Pointer Sisters’ “Fairytale” was the hit to precede her. She also shares how she wouldn’t have made her way to Nashville if it wasn’t for Palmer, her path to motherhood, and what’s next for Black women in country music.

Check out some excerpts from their conversation below, and revisit the episode on Apple Music here.

Mickey on her historic Grammy nomination for the ‘Best Country Solo Performance’ category:

“For me, being a Black woman in the category that I’m in, this is bigger than just an award for me. This award is really for all Black women.”

Mickey Guyton Mickey Guyton performs onstage during the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards at the Grand Ole Opry on September 16, 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee.

On the unlikely path for “Black Like Me”

“I never thought that a song like ‘Black Like Me’ would ever see the light of day. I’ve sent that song to people and a lot of the common reaction was, ‘I need to sit with this for a minute. I’ll get back to you.’ … I was really trying to push that song and we had video plans for it. We had video plans for ‘What Are You Gonna Tell Her’ and then everything just shut down and it stopped. And for that song to have taken a life of its own in a pandemic where I can’t even leave my apartment, it’s just crazy. Literally, God has a plan. I haven’t done anything different other than open my mouth and speak out against racism and sexism and speaking up for people that can’t speak out for themselves.”

Mickey giving Rissi Palmer her flowers for encouraging her to pursue songwriting:

“I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, I would not have moved to Nashville had I not Googled Black female country singers and saw your face and saw you singing at a show, nervous, holding your heart and your guitar. Had I never seen that, I would have never made the move to Nashville. So you are the head majorette. I’m just following your lead and following how you’re leading in love, and showcasing—I discover artists because I’m seeing your page.”

On what’s next for Black women in country music:

“Well, I’ve learned one thing since all of this has gone on, that not only is it important for me to win, but it’s important for Black women to win. And the only way I truly believe that Black women can win is by bringing each other up. And it won’t work if it doesn’t. It’s not enough for just one of us to get through. It has to be a collective effort. And that is the path for the next Black girl, is for her to in fact, open her door for the next Black girl. And not only for her to embrace the next Black girl, but to embrace her Black people because they are important. And Black women are so important and we’re not always made to feel that way.”
