WandaVision premiered this week, and the show has already earned raves for capturing the look and feel of a classic sitcom from the 1960s. Director Matt Shakman (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Game of Thrones) recently told Entertainment Tonight that he and Marvel CEO Kevin Feige had lunch with American treasure Dick Van Dyke, who gave them advice on how to capture the magic of a Golden age comedy.

The trio broke bread at Club 33, the ultra-exclusive secret restaurant inside Disneyland. Shakman said of the lunch:

“Oh, easily one of the best afternoons of my life. I mean, he is, I’m sure, an inspiration for so many people, but for me in particular, he had a huge impact on my life, and I think the same for Kevin Feige. So, the chance to sit down with him and pick his brain and kiss the ring, really, but also just try to soak up the secret sauce that has made so much of what he’s done but, in particular, The Dick Van Show be this timeless classic. That was an utter joy. And we did it at Disneyland, above Pirates of the Caribbean in this place called Club 33. It really just felt like the perfect place to meet with Dick Van Dyke, this great Disney legend.”

And while Dick Van Dyke wasn’t so familiar with the MCU, Shakman and Feige gave him a crash course in the world:

“We did have to give him the explanation, and he didn’t seem to be too fluent with the MCU. It was great. He did say at one point during our lunch, “Oh, I hear you guys have had some great success. That’s wonderful. Congratulations. What did you just put out?” And Kevin, who’s great, obviously Kevin is this mastermind of this incredible creative endeavor that’s had so much success, he said, “Well, yes, well, we just put out Avengers: Endgame.” And [Dick] was like, “Oh, Avengers: Endgame? Oh, great. Fantastic.” He said, “Yep, it’s actually the biggest movie of all time.” “Oh, great. Is it– What! The biggest movie of all time?!” He was like, “That’s amazing!” It was so sweet to see Kevin realize and Dick realized what they were talking about. It was really fun.”

Van Dyke had plenty of advice for the duo, on how to ground the show while maintaining the comedy. Shakman said, “But we learned from Dick Van Dyke that their number one rule for how they approached anything was that if it couldn’t happen in real life, it can’t happen on the show. Which is this idea that you need to ground what you’re doing in real-life stories, but then that gives you the permission to be incredibly silly and to fall over the ottoman and do pratfalls. That was very helpful in how we approached the tone of it, because getting the tone right is the hardest thing in the ’50s, the ’60s, the ’70s.”

Does this mean we’re going to get a Dick Van Dyke cameo in WandaVision? Shakman responded, “I couldn’t possibly say!”. Fingers crossed we get DVD in the MCU!

NFL Wild Card Prediction Updates and Divisional Game Picks!

http://www.thenerdelement.com/2021/01/15/nfl-wild-card-prediction-updates-and-divisional-game-picks/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=nfl-wild-card-prediction-updates-and-divisional-game-picks

So last week, I got some of the picks correct and some of them wrong. For instance, I predicted that the Bills would beat the Colts 38-30, but the final score was 27-24 Bills over the Colts. I predicted that the Seahawks would beat the Rams 27-10, but the final score was 30-20 Rams over the Seahawks. I predicted that the Bucs would beat the Football Team 31-16, but the final score was 31-23 Bucs over the Football Team. I was so close on that prediction! I predicted that the Titans would beat the Ravens 35-17, but the final score was 20-13 Ravens over the Titans. I predicted that the Saints would beat the Bears easily 41-23, but the final score was 21-9 Saints over the Bears. I predicted that the Steelers would beat the Browns 33-24, but the final score was 48-37 Browns over the Steelers. The Steelers offense had 4 turnovers and the Browns got up to a 28-0 lead because they took advantage of the Steelers mistakes. That is what you are supposed to do in order to win the game. The Steelers offense however started to get it going in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the 28-0 deficit. So, I got 3-3 picks correct which is a tie.

Now, let’s move on to the Divisional playoff game picks, shall we?! The first game I will predict is the tomorrow’s Rams @Packers game. The Rams defense was outstanding against the Seahawks and they are about to face a really tough team, quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his dangerous offense, but without their offensive lineman David Bakhtiari which is a big lost. But the main question is can the Rams defense slow down Mr. Aaron Rodgers and his main weapons on offense? Well, I don’t think so because I think the Packers will find a way to win and go on to the Championship game with a win over the Rams 38-23. It is hard to beat the Packers especially when teams have to go to Green Bay in a playoff game and the weather may be a little cold for both teams especially for the Rams. I just don’t think the Rams can deal with the weather situation. The next game I will predict is the Ravens @Bills game on Saturday night football. I actually think the Ravens can take down the Bills in a really close game 29-23. I just think the quarterback for the Ravens Lamar Jackson will run all over the Bills defense like he did against the Titans. The next game I will predict is the Browns @Chiefs game. I think the Chiefs will win this game over the Browns 41-32 in a close game. The last game I will predict is the Bucs @Saints game, a divisional rivalry game. These teams will play each other for the 3rd time of the season. The Saints have swept the Bucs during the season and it helped the Saints win their division. I think the Bucs will keep this a real close game by scoring some points, but I think the Saints will score little more points and beat the Bucs 31-28.

So, my playoff prediction is the AFC Championship game between the Ravens and Chiefs and the NFC Championship game between the Saints and Packers.

So, what do you guys think about the Divisional round picks?!

I would like to hear some comments, thoughts, or opinions down below!

Stay tuned for Divisional round pick updates.

Mid Week in Review Broadcast @BTalk 100-WED, 8pm: Soul Outperforms WW 1984?; More on Black Panther 2; Bitcoin & Black Cryptology ; Miles Morales (Also) Has Clone Issues; Batman: Soul of the Dragon

Time sure is moving like (Black) Wally West taking a jog to school.  Nevertheless, it's that time for the a new installment of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review (MWIR)-airing every Wednesday at 8pm eastern, thanks to the good folks at BTalk 100.  The topics set to be discussed are: surprisingly, Pixar's Soul starring Jamie Foxx despite the addition of simultaneous factors like streaming and COVID-19, outperformed Warner's Wonder Woman 1984 in China; Marvel Studios head honcho, Kevin Feige is giving more clues regarding what thematic direction the Black Panther sequel will take without its star actor, the late Chadwick Boseman; shocker! Dburt picks up on a forgotten topic pertaining to his recent interest and foray into cryptocurrencies as well as black American history's connection to cryptology;  oh and speaking of crypto...did you ever hear about the early investor worth 220M in bitcoin but he can't touch his fortune?; well it looks like Marvel can't help themselves-Miles Morales' version of Spider-Man will purportedly tackle his own spin of the Peter Parker "clone saga" storyline;  the 9th annual Black Comic Book Festival starts....TODAY.  And yes, its virtual. Does Netflix/Shondaland's Bridgerton do a disservice to British black history by fantasizing how race is depicted during Britain's Regency era?

Respected actor, Harry Lennix (The Blacklist, Man of Steel) recently revealed that he will be assuming Martian Manhunter character in the forthcoming Zack Snyder Justice League HBO Max film; Lastly,  noted comic editor/graphic novelist and friend of the Afronerd Radio show, Joseph Illidge, wrote an interesting piece for Medium.com entitled, Fear of a Black Batman and the Comeuppance for White Supremacy.
