Writer: Christopher Priest / Artist: Joe Benet / DC Comics

Deathstroke is a title that’s had a lot of reflection on Slade Wilson’s past. We see how his past actions and decisions have affected the way he interacts with the world and other people… and Slade is not a people person. It’s safe to say that he isn’t father of the year either, nor is he your anti-hero, or mercenary. Slade is a villain through and through. He’s “I do what I want!” incarnate. However, that somehow doesn’t make him a bad person? Yeah, I know that’s a weird thing to say, however that’s what this issue shows as we gain insight into Slade and how he works.

We see Slade going undercover toward Gotham with his daughter Rose. Rose is on her smart phone talking it up and Slade ain’t having it. They are undercover yo, that means no smart phones because that’s how you get tracked. It also means Slade is rocking a glass eye to pass off his disguise, which is awkward for Rose. Wintergreen gives Rose some advice on Slade and how he takes some time to understand due to the way he is wired. Which is to say you gotta read the code in the way he cares, by understanding it’s the way he belittles you or calls you an idiot that translates as him being worried.

We get a quick glimpse into Rose’s backstory and Slade watching her from a distance, but the real kicker of this issue is the cat and mouse game between Slade and Batman. There’s a scene that actually took me a few moments to go back through and assess as Slade describes Batman’s tactics to spy on him while having to work that into plans of his own. Bennett does an incredible job of setting this scene up, which looks so plain as day but is a great version of a superhero-supervillain stake out in plain sight. Priest has Slade noting what gives Batman’s presence away and complimenting him at the same time on being so good. I really enjoyed that scene between the two, as well as the commentary Slade provides on Batman.

This book has been outdoing itself slowly and surely since its debut. Priest is at his best in showing how meticulous Slade can be with his disguises, planning, and patience. We are seeing way more of the mechanics that make him so feared in the DC Universe.

Make Spiced Apple Cider Sugar Scrub

http://dollarstorecrafts.com/2016/09/make-spiced-apple-cider-sugar-scrub/

DIY Spiced Apple Cider Sugar Scrub Recipe

I have recently fallen in love with homemade sugar scrubs. Over the summer, I have made several batches of DIY body scrub using items from my kitchen pantry, and things I've found at the dollar store. This week, I'm ready to join the fall festivities, and I've mixed up a batch of Spiced Apple Cider Sugar Scrub. I tested it out this morning, and I smell spicy, tart, and delicious, and my skin has never felt this smooth! I posted the recipe and instructions in my column over at eBay, so go check it out: [spiced apple cider sugar scrub recipe]

I found almost all the ingredients for this recipe at the dollar store! Just head to the grocery store for coconut oil (or substitute any oil you have on hand). Oh, and everything in this recipe is edible, so you can eat it if you want... just sayin'!

Project Materials:

  • Cane sugar, $1
  • Spiced Apple Cider Mix, $1
  • Cinnamon, on hand or $1
  • Coconut Oil, on hand
  • Swing-top container, $1

Total cost: $3 and up

Make a Painted Fall Leaves Garland

http://dollarstorecrafts.com/2016/09/make-a-painted-fall-leaves-garland/

Dollar store craft: easy fall leaf garland

A few weeks ago, I shared a cute spray paint makeover on some dollar store pumpkins, and today I have another project from the same great blog, Up to Date Interiors. This time, the project is transforming dollar store faux leaves into a pretty decorator garland, using the magic of (you guessed it) -- spray paint! Find the instructions here: [painted fall leaves garland]

Project Materials:

  • Faux fall leaves, $1 and up
  • Spray paint, white and copper, on hand or about $3 a can*
  • Needle & thread, on hand

Total cost: $7 and up

*I do NOT recommend buying the $1 spray paint - it covers poorly so you have to paint multiple coats, and it just never looks that good. Much better use of your money to buy a decent quality spray paint instead!

Things We Saw Today: Ron Swanson’s Thoughts on the Presidential Election

http://www.themarysue.com/things-we-saw-today-1327/

This week is giving me all the Parks and Recreation nostalgia. ICYMI, earlier this week it was officially Treat Yo Self 2016 on October 13th, and now Ron Swanson himself is finally sounding off on the presidential election. Actor Nick Offerman took to Twitter after speaking with “a source close to Ron” (wink wink) and outlined exactly all of the reasons why Ron would favor one candidate over another in the election. Or he’d just write someone else in, which sounds more like Ron to me.

  • Speaking of the election, the Orange is the New Black cast has also landed on one side most decisively. (via The Daily Dot)
  • Reese Witherspoon and Robin Wright are among those teaming up to produce an upcoming television series based on an upcoming book which chronicles the lives of several of the First Ladies of the United States, from Jackie Kennedy to Michelle Obama. (via Deadline)
  • The first U.S.-based lightsaber academy is opening in San Francisco! If you’ve ever wanted to tap into your inner Jedi (or Sith, we’re not judging), here’s your chance. (via Blastr)
  • I guess this is one way to pull off some cross-promotion? Jury’s still out on whether or not this Doctor Strange name-dropping in an episode of General Hospital was actually successful, though. (via io9)
  • Arrow is resurrecting a comic book character who used to have his own show. Christopher Chance, aka the Human Target, is coming to the CW series, played by Jessica Jones actor Wil Traval. Previously, he was played by Mark Valley in a short-lived series on Fox. (via Comic Book Resources)
