Eastpak and DC Comics both have some serious brand recognition. The former has been making cool backpacks, tote bags, and much more since the 1950s. Many of us grew up with one or even own a few of them now. And, well, DC Comics is one of two publishing giants in that arena with iconic characters like Batman, Wonder Woman, the Joker, and Superman. You may have heard of them. So, when two big brands come together, some really cool results spawn from that collaboration. The new DC x Eastpak link-up is here and we are loving the choices.

This overall print features the aforementioned characters as well as other faves like Catwoman and the Flash. The collage print is available on several items, including the Padded Pak’r, Orbit mini backpack, Springer bum bag, and others. We especially dig the Transit’r bag that you can carry with you, whether you’re going on vacation or off to a quick business trip. (Yes, it’s carry-on sized!) You may want to avoid Metropolis and Gotham City though. We heard it gets chaotic in those cities pretty often…

One of the most iconic sounds in TV and film history is the Joker’s maniacal laughter. The DC X Eastpak collection brings this cackle to print form on quite a few items, like the Oval and Benchmark. Of course, it cannot be a DC X Eastpak line without two of comic’s biggest characters. A laptop case, the Day Pak’r, and a Padded Pak’r, and Travelpack all include some great images. Detective Comics and the joys of those early days are honored here, and a must have for diehard fans.

One of the questions fans have asked about the Xenomorphs since 1979’s original Alien is “just how smart is the alien?” The creature definitely had problem-solving skills of a sort. But as far as we know, it couldn’t do anything complex, like fly a spaceship for example. Or, as far as we knew, speak in any kind of language. However, Alien: Earth just revealed that the noises the Xeno makes actually do form a kind of communication system, one that possibly counts as language. The hybrid synthetic Wendy, played by Sydney Chandler, is the character who discovers it.

At the end of episode three, “Metamorphosis,” we see the Prodigy scientists in Neverland do experiments on their captured Xenomorph eggs. These eggs originated in the crashed Weyland-Yutani ship, the Maginot. After Kirsh (Timothy Olyphant) cuts into the egg, he starts to dissect a living facehugger. This causes intense and unexplained pain in the hybrid Wendy, who can hear the alien cries of pain in her head far away, and which makes her double over in pain and collapse on the floor. This occurs after she saved her brother from a Xenomorph earlier in the episode.

In episode four, “Observation,” Boy Kavalier and his scientists at Prodigy take notice of Wendy’s unique connection to the Xenomorph. They conduct intense experiments to see if she can reproduce the complex sounds the creatures make and communicate with them. Not only can she hear the sounds clearly, using her artificial vocal chords, but she can literally replicate them. Wendy can seemingly talk to the creatures, confirming they have a form of vocal communication that qualifies as language. Wendy even communes with a newborn facehugger by episode’s end. We are unaware by the end of this episode just what the aliens are saying, however. That remains a mystery. Wendy doesn’t even seem to know what she’s saying, doing it all by instinct.

Prodigy (and by extension, Weyland-Yutani) want to take control of the Xenomorphs as some kind of weapon. One that the Colonial Marines can presumably use off-world. We’ve known that since the very start of this franchise. But a weapon like the Xenomorphs is only really useful if one can control it, and if they have a language, and it’s one the corporations can replicate, then they have an undefeatable weapon of mass destruction at their disposal. 

Of course, we know what happens in the timeline after Alien: Earth, starting with Ridley Scott’s original film and then James Cameron’s Aliens. So it’s safe to say that the human corporations never fully grasp the Xenomorph language. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have had literally the whole rest of the franchise play out the way it did. But knowing that the Xenomorphs have a language really changes what we knew about their levels of intelligence. While we still wouldn’t go as far as saying they are sentient beings. But they definitely have more going on than just “kill and have babies.” It remains to be seen whether Noah Hawley is willing to reveal just how much the aliens can really talk. Or reveal what they are saying.

One of the worst fears of any car owner is that you’ll come back to where you parked your vehicle, only to find that someone has smashed into it.

This sort of damage is fairly common. One 2022 survey stated that almost 60 percent of Americans claim that their car has been damaged while parked.

Forget being named Pope, there’s a far more exclusive title one can strive for: James Bond. Every time the iconic spy franchise resets, it must find a new 007. That sends fans and media alike into a tither trying to determine who will take up the legendary mantle only a handful of actors have ever called their own. That process is going on right now as Denis Villeneuve is set to direct the first installment of the series’ next era. So who will he chose as his signature spy? We can rule out at least one person, his Dune: Part Two star Austin Butler. He said he wouldn’t consider playing the role because an American Bond would be “kind of sacrilegious.”

Butler told Hits Radio UK (in an interview we first came across at Deadline) that while Villeneuve hasn’t called to discuss the role of Bond with him, Butler wouldn’t take the part even if he did. “I don’t think that would be a good idea,” Butler said. “Because I’m an American. I can do an accent but that would be kind of sacrilegious.”

While Austin thinks the role of James Bond must be someone from the UK, he said he would play a Bond villain. That sounds great (really great, actually), but Butler is selling both himself and his country short. We can’t get one American Bond? Seriously? How is that fair when we keep casting British Spider-Mans? We had a British Batman and a British Superman, too. We even let our mates from across the Atlantic play Founding Fathers, don’t we? Was it “sacrilegious” when the HBO John Adams mini-series cast Stephen Dillane as Thomas Jefferson and Tom Wilkinson as Benjamin Franklin?

……Eh, maybe a little bit. But that’s fine! Acting is about pretending to be someone else. You don’t have to be born in the same country as your character to be the right person for the job. Nicholas Hoult has a better American accent than most Americans!

Besides, Butler should want the role specifically because of where he’s from. The list of people who’ve played James Bond is highly exclusive, but he’d be the only American on the list. And how can that be sacrilegious when we already got a Pope from Chicago?
