The 2019 Chevy Equinox feels like a luxury car, but with a base price of $23,580, it’s far from having the opulent price tag. With the holiday season coming upon us in a few weeks, it’s the perfect gift to keep in mind for that special someone — like yourself.

I recently had the distinct pleasure of driving around the city of Chicago in the Premiere model, which came in a vibrant cajun red hue. Not only was I impressed by the features, but so were the people who came into contact with it. Of those features included the very modern and helpful technology. Your phone can be fully hooked up to the car with the help of the AppleCarPlay and Android Auto apps. Use the app for your phone of choice to be able to play music from your favorite streaming services, use your Google Maps, handle all incoming text messages (and reply with voice commands) and more. The car has 4GLTE Wifi with connectivity for up to seven devices, which came in handy for my one laptop when I needed to pull over in the middle of a drive to handle some urgent business. There are two USB ports, as well as a 12v charging port and placement for your phone to charge when you don’t have your cord handy.  It’s seemingly impossible to find yourself completely without power on your phone when you’re riding around in the Equinox.

Outside of helping you stay connected, the technology in the car also helps you to drive and park a lot better. A first for Chevy vehicles, the Equinox has surround vision. With four cameras placed around the car, you get a bird’s eye view of it when you’re moving at a lower speed or trying to get in and out of parking spots. I found the front-facing camera, also known as the forward collision alert, to be especially useful when trying to parallel park into tight spaces in the city.

If you run into any issues, it’s easier than ever to connect to OnStar safety and security services, but the chances of finding yourself, say, in an accident, aren’t all that likely with all the features in place to keep you from colliding with other cars or veering off into other lanes. You can thank the low speed automatic braking and the lane keep assist with lane departure warning for that. There are also some unique safety alert features in your seat. This is a nice option when you compare it to cars that constantly beep when trying to give a heads up. Instead, you get a light vibration at the bottom of your seat to make sure you’re paying attention. In addition, there’s also Intellibeam headlamps that will alert your car to turn on the high beam headlamps when you find yourself in hard-to-see conditions, but can quickly switch back to low-beam when there is another car coming your way.

As for the interior, I was lucky enough to have a car filled with leather seating and leather surfaces, so there was no scuffing or staining during my time in the vehicle. The usual interior for the seats is a denim-like fabric that is easy to maintain. Both options, whichever you choose, are perfect for any pets that might hop in with you. Anything else you might want to carry should also have plenty of space to be toted around thanks to the hefty cargo room and additional room offered with 60/40 split-folding rear seats you can make flat. Get to that space at the back of the car when your hands are full by using the hands-free option, where you kick your foot under the rear bumper and the trunk pops open.

The 2019 Chevy Equinox is a small SUV, the perfect car to enjoy and not take up too much space, but you don’t have to sacrifice the space you need inside the vehicle to have it. It has an estimated 39 miles that it can travel per gallon, making it quite the fuel efficient car. And if you want it to look a little bit more sporty, there are options in terms of models and accessories that are sure to turn heads (like the Redline edition with its black grille, black window trim and 2.0L turbo engine). You can make the car what you want, a vehicle perfect for weekend getaways, long daily commutes or nights on the town. Whatever you do with it, you will certainly enjoy all that the Equinox has to offer.
