After a particularly rough year, actor Jason Mitchell has something to celebrate. The Straight Outta Compton star revealed on his Instagram on Monday that he is the father of a bouncing baby boy. He shared a photo with the adorable infant with the caption, “I just flipped the switch.. (drake voice).” He didn’t divulge who the mother is.
The 33-year-old responded to the well-wishes from fans and celebrities alike. When someone celebrated by saying, “Yaaay, twin!! U finally got your boy!! He is perfection!!” the actor replied, “like his daddy.”
This is very good news for the actor, who has seen his career and image take a major hit following allegations of misconduct on the set of multiple projects, including Netflix’s Desperados and the hit Showtime series The Chi, where he was accused of making things uncomfortable for co-star Tiffany Boone. He was let go from both, and was also dropped by his agents at UTA. Nevertheless, he maintained that he was innocent of sexually inappropriate behavior in the workplace. However, he did tell the folks at The Breakfast Club that he learned his lesson of being too friendly as well as too quick to anger with some of his co-workers.
“I’m definitely just holding myself accountable and saying, you know what, I don’t feel like people don’t want to see me successful,” he said. “I think people want to see me do better. The only way I can really do better is to change my actions. I can’t fraternize. I can’t hang.”
Mitchell is set to appear in the film Zola out this year, and is in pre-production for a project called The Scarecrow Bandits, but otherwise, roles have been few and far between since allegations came to surface against him last year.
As far as parenthood though, Mitchell has clearly been successful. He is already the father of two girls named Royce and Cuppie whom he has custody of. He shared in 2018 in an interview with us that he likes to take his girls out on dates to expose them to the right way they should be treated by men.
“I show them how a man is supposed to treat them. I take them on dates, I open their doors, I walk out the elevator and hold their doors. I do all that and make sure they’re treated like ladies because one day they’re going to say yes to somebody, and I just gotta make sure it’s the right person.”

This week’s The Walking Dead follows several characters post-Hilltop fire. Carol contemplates leaving the community (again) before finally deciding to stay (again); Daryl and Negan have a mini adventure on the way back to Alexandria; and Beta has a weird reckoning with Alpha’s head before forming a massive walker herd. But the most exciting development this week is the debut of a colorful comic character. The Walking Dead welcomed Juanita Sanchez aka Princess (Paola Lazaro) and things are about to get awesomely weird.
In this episode, Eugene finally tells everyone that he has been in contact with someone from another location. Yumiko and Ezekiel offer to go with him to meet Stephanie near Charleston, West Virginia. The trio arrive in a city (presumably Charleston) and notice a few disturbing scenes of walkers dressed up and tied to chairs and cars.

But things get really strange when a chipper woman suddenly confronts them. Not just a chipper woman, but one with purple hair, a huge pink coat, and goggles. She yells “hello” at them and they stand back in disbelief. Eugene knows this voice doesn’t belong to Stephanie; they aren’t at the agreed meeting place just yet so he’s understandably confused. The woman doesn’t say her name, but comic readers definitely know that outfit.
In the comics, Princess was a lone survivor living in Pittsburgh. She ran into Eugene, Michonne, Yumiko, Siddiq, and Magna on the road and went with them on towards the Commonwealth in Ohio. Her chipper and childish demeanor were a contrast to her solid fighting skills and dark, abusive past. The show seems to have made her the Princess of a different city, but she will likely join Eugene on his trip to meet Stephanie.
It’s interesting at this point in the apocalypse to see a person who is surviving on their own. By now, most people have found a community for protection and camaraderie or they started their own safe place with others. Comic Princess hadn’t seen a living person in over a year when she met Eugene but it remains to be seen what’s been going on with the TV version of this character.

There’s also a possibility that she may not be a lonely and friendly ally after all. The show has been known to switch it up and make good characters go bad. For example, comic Dante ends up being Maggie’s boyfriend but TV Dante was a Whisperer spy. This move would be disheartening because Princess is such a cool addition to the narrative so hopefully she won’t turn out to be a terrible person.
The introduction of the Princess means the Whisperers are about to take their final bow to make way for the Commonwealth arc. There are only two episodes left in this season so this season might end with a first glance at the massive community. The Commonwealth plays a big role in the later volumes of the comics but this doesn’t mean that the show is ending any time soon.
Timelines are a funny thing on the series with one or two days taking several episodes before a time skip pushes us months (or years) into the future. So it could be several more seasons with Daryl, Carol, and whomever else survives with Commonwealth action and new explorations created for the TV show.
Either way, it’s exciting to find out more about the TV Princess and how she will play a role in this ever-changing saga.

After watching Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn in theaters and on VOD, I ended each viewing with the same thought. Where can I get myself one of those delicious egg sandwiches? Luckily actor Bruno Oliver, who plays short order cook Sal in BoP, made a video for Variety walking us through what goes into that magical bodega breakfast sandwich.
Oliver rehearsed his scene several times saying, “It was definitely one of the oddest preparations as an actor I’ve done, … I spent the night destroying my kitchen making egg sandwiches over and over and over again.” Sal made the sandwich himself, but relied on a catering chef for the close-up shots of sandwichy goodness.
The sandwich is a simple bacon, egg, and cheese served on a ciabatta roll with a touch of hot sauce. Oliver didn’t realize how important the sandwich was remarking, “I really didn’t understand the place the egg sandwich had in the movie until I saw it.” Needless to say, he was surprised and delighted by the numerous think-pieces written for the breakfast.
“I’ve read a lot about the sandwich as a metaphor for Harley’s recovery,” Oliver said. “I’ve read a lot that refer to Sal as the only male in the movie who doesn’t screw her over.”
If you’re looking for a delicious way to pass the time during this quarantine, we can hardly think of a better treat. Egg sandwich, we will love you forever!
