Writer: Benjamin Percy / Artist: Joshua Cassara / Marvel Comics

One thing is clear. X-Force is one of the best Dawn of X books on the shelves. The team has always been about protecting mutants by any means necessary. Now, in the new era of X-Men, the black ops group plays an important role in keeping the status quo. That “by any means necessary” attitude means a whole lot more when it comes to protecting the future of Krakoa.

A few issues back, I noted how Benjamin Percy was great at finding a way to make the stakes feel high despite the X-Men’s newfound immortality. X-Force is a lot like the X-Men’s own version of the Suicide Squad, with the danger being very real and extremely deadly. This week’s issue feels like Percy’s focus has shifted to the degrading morality that comes with being on the team, as well as the consequences of doing anything to protect Krakoa.

We pick back up where Beast sent Wolverine, Domino, and Quentin Quire on a secret mission to clean up his mess in Terra Verde. I will tell you that plants have never looked as terrifying as Joshua Cassara makes them out to be, even in all their beauty. Cassara’s artwork gives us some solid imagery, which can essentially be summed up as the horror of the living plants in the Aztec temple. I would love to see what this man can do with a few fatalities.

Two of the most interesting members of this iteration of X-Force are Beast and Jean. Unlike most of the other members of the team, the two have always seemed out of place with the nature of the work that needs to be done. That’s always felt purposeful and in this issue, it comes to a head as we see how being on the team has affected the two of them. The confrontation being Hank and Jean is a big one, built up over the past 10 issues. It’s only fitting that the two moral cores of the group would be affected so greatly.

It’s really an interesting contrast that Percy depicts. One side of X-Force deals with how much pain and suffering they are willing to go through for the mission, meanwhile, the other half try to stay morally afloat in the hard decisions they have to make. Krakoa and the X-nation is only in its infancy, and as the threats become larger, I wonder how much is too much for the team to handle.

It’s no secret that Willie Taylor of Day 26 fame, has had issues with infidelity when it comes to his nearly 13- year marriage to Lashanda Denyce.

The couple decided to participate in the latest season of “Marriage Boot Camp” to see if there was anything there left to salvage.

And in the process, Jude Lynn Toler wasted no time getting in his a$S.

In addition to being husband and wife, Willie and Lashanda are parents to two children, including  a daughter named Layla Marie.

While at Boot Camp, Lashanda brought up the fact that there have many times when Willie has a wandering eye and even worse, made a habit of not coming home every night.

During a session, Judge Toler told Willie that with the example he was setting in his household, his daughter was going to grow up and marry a man just like her father.

Toler told Willie, “Your daughter will live the life you give your wife.”

The line got a particularly strong reaction from Tahiry who sat up in her seat at the level of realness.

Toler continued.

“I know you love your kids and I know it matters to you who your daughter picks. And your daughter will pick you. Are you going to want to give her the life that you give your wife?”

The words must have struck a chord because Willie was shedding tears during that moment.

You can watch it below.

“Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition” airs Thursday, July 9th at 9 pm ET/PT.

The Mid Week in Review Airs This Wed @BTalk100: More on Capt. Kirk’s Passing; Janelle Monae vs (Male) Hip Hop; Kaepernick & Disney+ More

http://www.afronerd.com/2020/07/the-mid-week-in-review-airs-this-wed.html

Hey folks....honestly, the Afronerd Radio family is going to be in mourning indefinitely since we discovered that the soul of our blerd media enterprise, Kirk "The Captain" Goodall passed away last week.  And for listeners that were unable to hear this past Sunday's memorial broadcast, it will be available in podcast form shortly.  If there's one thing that Captain Kirk taught our crew, it's to forge forward in spite of adversity and honor the original mission-the promulgation of the other black experience (blerd culture, urb-alt music, science/tech, commerce and black intellect as product). So let's try to do exactly that.....get into a groove and discuss the matters of the day via our new home BTalk 100.

Check out the latest installment of the Mid Week in Review via the  Afronerd Radio steam engine airing this Wednesday at 8pm eastern.  The topics on your summertime barbecue grill are:  more thoughts, prayers and observations concerning the untimely passing of our brother (and yours!), Captain Kirk; actress/singer, Janelle Monae had some interesting things to say about the longstanding misogyny in hip hop; and right on time after Monae's remarks, there that business with minstrels, 50 Cent and Lil Wayne; although it's still murky if activist and athlete, Colin Kaepernick will ever play in the NFL, it's more apparent that other corporations (like Disney) are open to business with him;  and as expected quite a few NFL fans are non-committal toward the league for promising to play "Lift Every Voice and Sing" a.k.a. the Black national anthem before a preseason games;  more thoughts about the erasure of white, racist and/or Confederate monuments, statutes and honors and what happens if black effigies are given that same work? (oops.....like Frederick Douglass); The Comics Beat highlights the contribution of noted Barnes & Noble graphic novel buyer, Jim Killen who was recently furloughed from the company after 20 years of service in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic; Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling signs an open letter (along with 150 other notables) critiquing cancel culture; And lastly, what can we expect from proposed upcoming virtual comic conventions (i.e. SDCC, Marvel and Dragon-Con).  Call in LIVE at 508-645-0100.

NFL Temperature Checks Planned?

http://www.thenerdelement.com/2020/07/09/nfl-temperature-checks-planned/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=nfl-temperature-checks-planned

So, it appears that the NFL plans on taking temperature checks for anyone who wants to go to the stadium to watch their team play. Anyone with bench access will be screened before entering the stadium. Also, anyone who records a temperature at or above 100.4 degrees or may have been exposed “shall not be permitted to enter the stadium on game day.”

In other news… The Washington Redskins planned to scrap Native American imaginary, but keep color scheme, per report. Washington is planning to have no Native American imagery, per a league source. They will be moving away from anything even relating to Native Americans, whether it be weapons or headdresses/features.

Stay tuned for NFL updates.
