Hi everyone! Today I want to discuss which picks I got correct and which ones I got wrong! So, let’s get started! I predicted that the Bengals would beat the Raiders 32-29, but the final score was 26-19 Bengals over the Raiders in a close game. The Raiders were moving the ball down the field looking like they are going to tie the game or go for the game-winning touchdown, but the Bengal’s defense made a game-winning interception to end the Raiders season. Also, the Bengals have won their first playoff game in 31 years! It was since 1991 when they won a playoff game. I predicted that the Buccaneers would beat the Eagles 26-`17, but the final score was 31-15 Buccaneers over the Eagles. The Eagles offense made a lot of mistakes as they were getting beat up 17-0 in the first half. The Eagles could have scored a touchdown if the quarterback Jalen Hurts had thrown the ball quicker instead of making it too late. It would have been 17-7 before the first half ended. I think the Eagles would still would have lost though. I predicted that the 49ers would beat the Cowboys 37-33, but the final score was 23-17 49ers over the Cowboys in a close game. The Cowboys were driving down the field looking like they were going to win the game, but the quarterback Dak Prescott stupidly slid down on the draw run play instead of trying to get out of bounds! The Cowboys tried to hurry up and spike the ball, but the time just ran out for Dallas. Brutal mistake!! I think the Cowboys to be honest with you should have won the game because all you had to do is get out of bounds. So, the blame should be on them for losing the game. I predicted that the Chiefs would beat the Steelers 31-25, but the final score was 42-21 Chiefs over the Steelers. The Chiefs started to turn it up especially in the second half after the Steelers strike first with a defensive strip for a touchdown to put them 7-0 over the Chiefs.
I predicted that the Patriots would beat the Bills 30-23, but the final score was 47-17 Bills over the Patriots in a huge blowout. The Patriots quarterback Mac Jones had to throw the ball a lot after his offense had success running the football and he only threw the ball like 3 times last time. This was a massive improvement by the Bills in general. And it led to the Patriots playing so horrible on offense and defense as their season comes to an end. I predicted that the Cardinals would beat the Rams 30-28, but the final score was 34-11 Rams over the Cardinals in a huge ugly blowout. The Cardinals offense was absolutely terrible. They made a lot of mistakes by throwing 2 interceptions especially the one close to the end zone, taking big sacks, abandoning the run game, not getting the receivers separation, did not even attack the Rams secondary, the wide receivers were so quiet and not getting the ball to, too many punts and wearing down Andy Lee, giving up chunk plays, poor play calling, and too many penalties. I have been talking about what they needed to do to win the game and they just hardly did any of that and it ended their season. What happened to these Cardinals?!! It looked like that was an easy win for the Rams and they did not belong in the playoffs.
So, I have gotten 4 out of 6 picks correct! Now, let’s get to the Divisional playoff game picks, shall we?! The first game I will predict is the Bengals @Titans game. The Bengals are coming off with their win over the Raiders in a wild card game and the Titans are coming off the bye week. I think this should be a very good game. The Titans have officially activated running back Derrick Henry and he is going to be playing tomorrow and that is going to give the Titans a big boost. I think the Titans will beat the Bengals in a very close game 36-30 because I think Derrick Henry is going to be hungry and he wants the ball a lot because he has missed some games due to the Covid-19 test results. I think he is going to have a big day and run all over the Bengal’s defense. The next game I will predict is the 49ers @Packer’s game. The 49ers are coming off with their win over the Cowboys and the Packers are coming off with the bye week. I think this should be a really good game. The 49ers are a physical team and they can pound the ball at you. However, the Packers are unstoppable at home and they don’t beat themselves. They just be very aggressive and take so much time off the clock and not letting other teams have a chance to go down the field. I think the Packers will beat the 49ers barely by a score of 26-24. The 49ers I think will make this game very close and competitive, but the Packers at some point will be too much for the 49ers to handle and plus it is going to be pretty cold there and they are going to be a lot of Packer fans and the stadium is going to be packed. The next game I will predict is the Rams @Buccaneers game. Both of these teams are coming off with their wins last week. I think this should be a really good game. This is going to be a rematch of these teams as the Rams beat them last time in Los Angles 34-24. Now the Rams head coach Sean McVay has had Bruce Arians number in recent seasons. I think this game will go completely different. I actually think the Rams are going to beat the Buccaneers in a very close game 33-30 because I just seem the Rams being more aggressive than the Buccaneers. But you never know. The last game I will predict is the Bills @Chiefs game on Sunday Night Football. Both of these teams are coming off with their wins last week. I think this should be a very good game. This is going to be a rematch of these teams as the Bills have beaten the Chiefs in Arrowhead 38-20. I think this is going to be a completely different game and a lot closer than last time. I actually think the Chiefs will beat the Bills in a super close game 39-36 because the Chiefs are looking red hot and they have been playing better. The last time these two teams played, the Chiefs were playing so badly against the Bills. Now, it is different and the result is that the Chiefs will get their revenge this time. But you never know.

Sundance Film Festival 2022 featured the premiere of Call Jane. The film is about a married woman with an unwanted pregnancy, she lives in a time in America where she can’t get a legal abortion and works with a group of suburban women to find help.
Based in Chicago, 1968. As a city and the nation are poised on the brink of violent political upheaval, suburban housewife Joy (Elizabeth Banks) leads an ordinary life with her husband and daughter. When Joy’s pregnancy leads to a life-threatening condition, she must navigate a medical establishment unwilling to help. Her journey to find a solution to an impossible situation leads her to the “Janes,” a clandestine organization of women who provide Joy with a safer alternative — and in the process, change her life.
Directed by Phyllis Nagy (Mrs. Harris). Written by Hayley Schore (The Resident, Code Black) and Roshan Sethi (The Resident, 7 Days).
Call Jane is based on the true story of the Jane Collective. The characters are composites rather than based on singular people. This is a story I knew of, but I didn’t know many details of how the Janes actually operated. The film is enlightening for people like me who aren’t too familiar with the story but it may be a little simplified for those more in the know. Despite being set in the 60s, Call Jane is extremely relevant given the current law changes people in some US states are fighting. Those changes severely limit the ability to get a legal abortion.
I found the tone to be a little uneven, they seemed to want to lighten the subject matter with some humour. Some of it worked, Elizabeth Banks is well known as a comedic actor, but some of it didn’t. Changing between the heavy scenes and the lighter fare didn’t quite work for me in Call Jane, I think that could have been smoother.
Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, The Lego Movie) puts in a good performance as Joy. She is convincing in the dramatic moments as well as the humorous ones. She holds the movie together and is the standout performer as one of the few characters given real depth.
Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Gorillas in the Mist) plays Virginia, the leader of the Janes. Weaver’s performance was a little by the numbers, I didn’t really believe in it. The cast overall is strong, Chris Messina (The Mindy Project, Argo) as Joy’s husband, Will and Cory Michael Smith (Gotham, Carol) as Dean, the man who carries out the abortions are both great.
I wanted to see more of Wunmi Mosaku’s (Loki, Lovecraft Country) Gwen. As the only African American involved in the Jane Collective, she had a different perspective that I think would have been interesting to see more of. There is one scene that mentions how hard it is for Gwen to be helping only white women and passing on the black women who can’t afford the high abortion fee. It was surface level stuff, there was more to be mined there.
Shot on film, the grain adds to the period feel. There isn’t a large amount of production design due to the limited budget so the grain helps to hide that to a certain extent. It’s simply shot but looks good.
It feels like there are holes in the storytelling of Call Jane, some events have to be skipped over for time obviously but it felt like some storylines were left unresolved. The ending all happened very quickly. Call Jane is a good introduction to the subject matter and is entertaining but it doesn’t do anything spectacular.
Call Jane is currently available via the Sundance Film Festival online, there is currently no news on future distribution.

NCBD was ripe with tantalizing Marvel books this week, and I could’ve gone would one of the current and usually excellent X-Men books. However, I just caught up on the last couple of issues of Strange Academy and felt it was the right time to focus reader’s attention back on these young magic wielders. There was a lot of buzz when Skottie Young’s book first dropped, evident by Chris blessing the interweb streets with reviews of the first and second issue, which I followed up with a Top 10 Lessons from Strange Academy article. The kids at Doctor Strange’s school for gifted young Mystic Arts users each have a very unique personality, affinity for magic, intriguing homeland, tragic backstory, parental issues, and/or reason for enrolling at the New Orleans academy taught by some of the best magicians and sorcerers in the business.
Doctor Voodoo, the Ancient One, the Scarlet Witch, Magik, Hellstrom, Nico, Agatha Harkness, and more make up the Harvard level lineup of teachers that grace these haunted hallways and terrifying grounds. The excitement that the students, all new to readers (save a few supremely deep cuts), bring to this story paired with the limitless possibilities of where Young and his artistic partner in crime Humberto Ramos can go with magic are the basis of each issue.
In Strange Academy #15, we see the fallout from Time Travel 101. Doyle Dormammu (yes, the son of that Dark Dimension asshole) travels to the future and gets a glimpse of the future he has been dreading since he got put on the wrong side of one of those horrible “the one” prophecies. I will say, despite Doyle leading a gang of the current students down the villainous path and clashing with the eventual “good guys” of the students, this future was poppin! I loved that this was our first glimpse of what the kids will eventually look like. But more importantly, I loved what this lesson in time travel taught Doyle in this issue.
Emily Bright, Doyle’s boo, rolls up to her boyfriend’s door to pick him up on the way to class but the flaming headed boy is gone. He’s left a note for her, and it sends Emily into a rage that Ms. Stanton bared the brunt of until things were revealed and teenage overreactions were realized. Skottie Young clearly understands the minds of youngsters and uses this knowledge the craft some impressively written storylines that parallel coming of age stories. It all paired perfectly with the unlimited and marvelous directions he takes each Strange Academy book. Humberto Ramos has been drawing these students, faculty, New Orleans locales, and extra dimensional spaces so well that I couldn’t picture anyone bringing these stories to life.
It has to be said that the overlap of stories that Young introduces each month are just enough to satiate readers who love picking up where the last issue left off and progressing the plot with each turn of the page. It’s never too much, always exciting, and frequently educational for young people and decades long Marvel fans alike. The way we got closure on this Doyle time travel fiasco and dove into the Calvin short cut to magic mastery troubles. We’ll see how this drug magic peddling venture works out for the boy who lost it all. Strange Academy #15 another exceptional issue, and I expect nothing to change moving forward.
