Most know Francis Manapul best for his stunning artwork, but now he’s taking a stab at writing the world of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman in Trinity #1.

Told from the perspective of Lois Lane, Trinity #1 begins with Lois and Clark’s son, Jon exploring the grounds of the family’s farm before heading inside to have dinner with his parents.

While having a conversation with his mother, Jon hears a knock on the door. With the powers he inherited from his father, he uses his x-ray vision to see through the door and decipher that Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince are on the other side.

Becoming excited over the fact that there are superheroes at the door, Jon loses slight control of his powers and a laser bolt shoots from his eyes, hitting Bruce square in the chest. This is the moment we are introduced to Clark Kent – but not the same Clark we’re accustomed to, because of the Rebirth events.

This version of Clark is not really a superhero, well not in the way we’d expect. He focuses on being a parent and husband but has been thinking of rejoining the ranks of his comrades, Wonder Woman and Batman.

Clark has no idea what the duo is doing at his home, but it is Lois who says she invited them. Bruce being the downer he is, has to let everyone know that it was Diana who forced him to come especially after he is forced into wearing one of Clark’s plaid shirts since Jon’s optic blast ruined the last shirt he had on.

Since Batman and Wonder Woman do not really know this version of Superman, Lois thought it was a good idea to get to know the people who would have Clark’s back if he did indeed go back into the fray. It may not be something that he wants but he knows it is a possibility.

I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but I felt like something was missing. But I do know that the group had to come together somehow, even if a dinner party hosted at a farmhouse seems a bit farfetched to me.

The dialogue wasn’t my favourite, aside from Bruce and Lois. I felt as though the two of them had the best lines. Wonder Woman was a little more resigned than I would have liked to see her, and Clark was not exactly what I am used to, but since he is meant to be a different Superman, I can understand the change in tone.

I think the standout in this piece is really the artwork. Again, it’s Francis Manapul, so at this point, beautiful art is expected. The cover and the interior work is some of the most beautiful I have seen in a comic book this year. The art and story work well together. It makes the book better as a whole, even if there were a few hitches in the dialogue.
This book may have not have been my favourite of the #1 issues which have come from the DC Rebirth so far, but I didn’t dislike it enough to avoid the second issue by any means. Even though I felt that it was lacking in some ways, I still look forward to seeing what the Trinity will get up to when issue two hits the stands.

The Full "Fantastic Beasts" Trailer Is Here And It Is Magical

https://www.buzzfeed.com/eleanorbate/fantastic-beasts-trailer-omfg?utm_term=4ldqpia

It’s the most detailed trailer yet and I NEED THIS MOVIE NOW.

Hey, Potterheads! Warner Bros. just released the new trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and it has got me feeling things.

youtube.com

It's probably the most in-depth trailer we've had to date. We see things we've never seen before, like this shot of Newt arriving at MACUSA.

‘Speechless’ 1×01 “P-I-PILOT:

http://blackgirlnerds.com/speechless-1x01-p-pilot/

Yes! Speechless is amazing! The entire DiMeo family already has my love. From the crazy mom, Maya, to the scary aggressive younger sister, Dylan. This new hit show (I say hit because I think it will be) delivers a hilarious family comedy on a great but somewhat touchy subject.

Mother knows best. At least she thinks she does. Maya DiMeo is an excitable, tour-de-force mother who knows exactly what she wants and how to get it. She pulled out all the stops in her attempt to find her eldest son, J.J., who has a condition that leaves him with limited mobility and communication challenges, a lack of “voice.” In so doing she has uprooted her family to numerous schools in a small time span. In this case, she has moved her family to the worst house in the best school district.

In true middle child fashion, Ray DiMeo is not sure his mother is making the best choice for “everyone.” Ray is constantly being teased by J.J. and Dylan. The only one who seems to understand him is his dad, Jimmy DiMeo. The bond between Ray and Jimmy is instantly recognizable. Jimmy is definitely the understanding one, who can reason with everyone in the family. He is absolutely loyal to his family. While Maya is busy telling principals off, he is there by her side agreeing yet not interfering. Maya understands her husband’s level-headedness in the midst of situations, which is why I love the interaction between her and Jimmy while he is taking a shower. He tells her like it is and she loves him for it.

Ray is the one having the most trouble this episode even if the central character is J.J. Ray is moving to a new crappy house and a new school. When those seem to go okay, Ray is then put in the middle of a battle between the school and his mother. While he wants to go to the school’s carnival, his mother says he can’t because they disrespected her and J.J. Middle child syndrome kicks in and Ray is convinced that his mother doesn’t care about him and he sneaks out. At the fair, he gets into more trouble when the boyfriend of the girl he wants to stay in town for, catches him with lips pursed for a kiss.

Family drama is just the tip of the iceberg. A good chunk of the hilarious acts that come about this first episode are from the new school all the kids have just transferred to. The principal starts things off with her announcement of the changed mascot to promote their “inclusion” practices. The Viking has been changed to a Sea Slug that has both male and female parts. Awesome! Then Maya points out that there is no ramp in the front, but there is an “alternative access ramp” in the back for her son to go through. Through a game cleverly titled “trash or person”, the principal is in no shape to deal with Maya and her antics. This will clearly be a win for Maya if they stay at this school.

At the school, we are also introduced to Kenneth. The token black staff member who will have none of Maya’s talk. They butt heads in the beginning. Kenneth refers to her as “Blind Side” and lets her know he knows all about her craziness. They clearly are destined to have an interesting friendship, especially now that Kenneth is the new voice aid for J.J. Hilarious moments to come I am sure.

This episode was an overall success. The audience was introduced to the main characters, the issues, and the comical drama. I look forward to next week. You should too! Wednesdays on ABC at 8:30pm.
