You probably know that Chris Hardwick has had a musical career, both as half of Hard ‘n’ Phirm and the original star of Rock of Ages. But did you ever imagine he’d make a smashing pumpkin?

Not, alas, the Billy Corgan variety. An actual pumpkin. If you looked closely on last night’s Talking Dead, you might have seen a few of the roundish orange veggies given a whole different kind of spice, with some familiar faces making (lantern) light of the situation:

With stage lights on, of course, it’s hard to get the full effect. Obviously one is King Ezekiel because of the dreadlocks, but blink and you might miss your guess on the others…until you see them fully darkened and lit from within, as the gods–and the expert carvers of Pumpkin Masters (maker of America’s #1 pumpkin carving kit)–intended. To remedy that, those Basquiats of the blade have sent us over some images of the Walking Dead pumpkins as they were truly meant to be seen.

What with Carol giving her best “death or cookies” fright face, Ezekiel roaring like his pet Shiva, and Morgan wielding his stick, Chris looks like he’s about ready to rely on the power of his mind to hold them at bay. Or, y’know, unleash them on the Saviors, as we all would if we could. Check out the close-ups of each pumpkin in the gallery below and see what you make of them all up close and personal-like.

The Best Kind of Awkward – #TheFlash

http://blackgirlnerds.com/best-kind-awkward-theflash/

Ok, I admit that my faith in The Flash was a wee bit shaken last week in my review of “Magenta.” This week’s episode, titled, “The New Rogues” totally revived my enthusiasm for the show. Not only was this new episode fun and quirky, but it was filled with satisfyingly awkward moments that left me grinning as I fell asleep after my bedtime rituals.

Everything about “The New Rogues” was deliciously awkward; from the ill-fitted suit worn by Grey Damon’s character Mirror Master to Joe West’s reaction to Iris and Barry getting all hot and heavy on the living room couch (Yass! Finally, a bit of heat between Barry and Iris!). And best of all, the team dynamic was back! No more angry/sad Cisco or anxious Wally West. Just a whole bunch of nerds solving problems with science, kicking butt, and taking names. The episode was perfection!

Here are some highlights from the episode.

Jesse Quicks’ Speed Force Training: If you’re going to be a proper speedster, adequate training is a must, which is what Jesse goes through this episode. Under the guidance of Barry, Jesse tests her speed and reflexes and learns the importance of not walking blindly into potentially hazardous situations. Barry’s not bad as a teacher and the tension that was present last week between him and his teammates seems to have dissipated. Instead, he is understanding, showing patience, even when he gets thrown into a mirror by the meta-human Mirror Master after getting distracted by Jesse’s inexperience.

The Dynamic Between Harrison Wells and Cisco Ramon: Oh, how I missed the dynamic between these two! They work so well together and it really shows in this episode. I loved how Wells briefly stole Cisco’s meta-human name game when naming the Mirror Master (nice one Wells). I also got my geek on when the two shot a coded message into the multiverse in search of a new Wells to join the team. The amount of nerdiness shared between the two is just so EXCELLENT! Flash writers, never separate these two characters, like never!

Mirror Master:  I liked how quirky and unconventional the villain Mirror Master was. He often seemed to have a one-track mind, but something about him made me want to know a bit more about his back story. Maybe I feel sorry for the character, which is weird because he is awfully silly. Maybe I’m interested in him because he’s a villain that seems ok with rocking an ill-fitted suit. Maybe it’s because Grey Damon is kinda dreamy (sighs). I don’t know exactly why I liked this character, but what I do know is that the Mirror Master was defeated too easily, and I hope that at some point in the series he will make a return.

Joe, Barry, and Iris and the definition of AWKWARD! So apparently, Barry does know how to romance. He’s got wine, he’s got candles, and he’s got Joe West’s couch for Iris West make out sessions. Only problem is that making out with your lady love in your former guardian’s (and her father’s) house can make for some interesting and romancing killing dialogue. Poor Joe, seeing Iris and Barry getting all hot and heavy on the couch that they usually to drink beer and eat pizza on must have been a shock. And Barry trying to play it off using the speed force to switch out the wine for beer while attempting to blow out those sexy time candles — classic! Oh, and let’s not forget that extremely awkward conversation between Barry and Joe about kissing Iris… priceless!

The Killer Frost Problem:  I always knew Caitlin Snow was secretive, but not this secretive. Her Killer Frost problem is getting out of control, and for the life of me, I don’t know why she doesn’t seek the help of her teammates.  I do admit that seeing her use her powers to secretly help Barry escape his mirror prison was fun to watch, and the physical changes she is experiencing are exciting. I just wish she felt comfortable enough to tell her teammates that she is a meta-human. I know she is afraid that she’s turning into her evil doppelganger, but she needs to realize that she is Earth One’s Caitlin and not Earth Two’s.

What did you think about The New Rogues episode?  Feel free to leave a comment!
