The latest arc of Venom is off to an intriguing start. The last couple of issues brought many revelations in the wake of Eddie’s battle with Knull, the Symbiote god. First, we learned that the Venom symbiote has changed drastically as it is no longer able to talk and has been taking Eddie’s body for joyrides. It also doesn’t help that it’s been erasing the man’s memories of various incidents.

Another bombshell dropped is the death of Flash Thompson aka Agent Venom, which is news for those of us who haven’t kept up with the various other books in the Spider-Verse. And with this new status quo established, Danny Cates ushers us into a new, more personal arc of Venom that is Moreno, like the kind of story that I’m looking forward to seeing.

There was a lot about Donny Cates first arc that I didn’t like. The whole Symbiote god story wasn’t exactly the kind of story that really fits within the Venom mythos. However, the aftermath of Knull has left us off with a great starting off point for this new arc and a wrinkle in the Eddie/Symbiote relationship.

One of the things that Cates did very well was his portrayal of the dysfunctional Venom relationship. With the symbiotic sort of losing its voice, it sends Eddie in a bit of a depressive state and on a journey of self-discovery. While the internet may make fun, or stan in some cases, for the loving relationship that Eddie and the symbiote have, Cates proves that it works really well for story development.

You can see just how much Eddie is affected by the symbiote’s new simplistic state and just how much trouble he has communicating with it. It’s like he has to rebuild his relationship with the thing all over again and deal with the new persona his partner has become.

There is a lot of other great character moments as well. I like the confrontation Eddie has with his father and the dive we take into his past. We’re reminded that Eddie’s life was troubled way before he became Venom. If you think about it, his past might even be the reason Venom was birthed to begin with. Towards the end of the issue, Eddie deals with some unexpected revelations. I’m looking forward to seeing how the Abyss arc dives into the family drama down the line.

Yo, Thanos so disrespectful man. Dude done put his armor up like a scarecrow while he doing the Gladiator Elysium Fields walk through the crops. Your boy probably a fuckin’ farmer now. Wipe out half of humanity and shuck this corner, nucka.

And the big moment everyone talking about (cuz let’s be honest, not much happens in this shit, this is a two minute teaser trailer if we keepin’ it 1-hunned) is RONIN AKA HAWKEYE AKA “I WAS SOMEWHERE SECURING THE BAG FOR MY FAM WHILE Y’ALL WAS GETTING THE BRAKES BEAT OFF YOU BY THANOS” BAAAAAAACK. Your boy out here doing his dirt in the same streets that Scarlett whitewashed Ghost in the Shell in.

Oh, and Ant-Man being Ant-Man. Your boy came out of the Quantum Realm to see his team reduced to 3 minutes worth of Endust wipe down.

Hopefully we get another trailer soon with some action, some Black people, reclaiming our time stone, etc. But for now, thanks for bringing us back into our feelings, jerks. Merry Christmas to you too, Marvel.

We don’t know who the greatest gayageum player in the world is, but we know which musician is our personal favorite. There’s nobody we love hearing play the national instrument of Korea more than Luna Lee, because she’s managed to turn the distinct sound of those 12 strings into a sonically different way to appreciate some classic rock hits. She transformed Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and the Red Hot Chili Peppers “Californication” into something entirely different yet familiar. She did the same thing with Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall.” Lee managed to make the Game of Thrones’ theme song even more epic.

But her latest cover might be her best yet, because she tackled one of the greatest tracks ever from one of the best rock ‘n’ roll bands in history. And we are totally “Thunderstruck” by her version of AC/DC‘s hit song.

Anyone feel like running through a wall right now? SAME. (Also, huge bonus points for that shirt.)

If you didn’t know you were listening to an unlikely cover of “Thunderstruck” the first few notes might throw you off, but it quickly becomes clear what she is playing. Who ever would have guessed a gayageum could rock this much.

This isn’t her first AC/DC track though. She also did a cover of their classic “Back in Black.”

We half expect Angus Young in a school boy outfit to come bouncing through these videos playing his guitar. Not that Luna Lee needs that though. Our favorite gayageum player in the world leaves us “Thunderstruck” on her own.
