MARVEL'S AGENT CARTER - MARVEL'S AGENT CARTER, played by CAPTAIN AMERICA'S HAYLEY ATWELL follows the cliffhanger adventures of a post-WW2 era super-spy who has to hide her activities from everyone she knows, including her superiors.

Rejoice! Writer and director Christopher McQuarrie teased it on instagram, and The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Atwell will be joining the Impossible Mission force in its seventh (yes SEVENTH) go at the cinema, of course opposite franchise star and possible immortal Tom Cruise.

We couldn’t be more excited about this news. We’ve loved Hayley since Captain America: The First Avenger and still mourn the loss of Agent Carter. This, along with the Peggy Carter focused chapter of Disney+ and Marvel’s What If? may just start to scratch our Atwell Itch. Or maybe we should see a doctor about that.

But that’s not all! In casting news from the DC side of things, Jonah Hex (Johnathon Schaech) will be joining the mega-crossover shenanigans of The Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths. We haven’t seen the tortured, old west law man since the season three finale of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, where he watched a giant, blue plushie defeat a dragon demon (seriously guys, watch this show if you haven’t). Since Hex lives in a different era from the rest of the Arrowverse, this could mean time travel will be an element to the event. Schaech joins an ever-growing roster of Crisis guest stars, including Burt Ward, Jon Cryer and Tyler Hoechlin. We can’t wait to see who else will show up for the party, but if Hex is there maybe it means Beebo isn’t far behind.

Elsewhere around the internet:

Gillian Anderson as … Margaret Thatcher? Okay.

And finally, here’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Andrew Scott (aka Fleabag and Hot Priest) handing out cans of gin (aka Gin in a Tin) to fans.

WRINKLES THE CLOWN Documentary Explores The Real Pennywise

https://nerdist.com/article/wrinkles-the-clown-documentary-explores-the-real-pennywise/

Between It Chapter Two and the upcoming Joker, it is safe to say creepy clowns are having a moment again. Thanks to Deadline, we’ve learned about a new documentary about a real life terrifying clown that has been haunting the nightmares of kids for years. Wrinkles The Clown is all about a Florida clown who found a whole new career being hired by parents to scare the crap out of their misbehaving kids. Well, we hope the kids were misbehaving, or else this is just plain mean.

You can see the first trailer for Wrinkles The Clown down below:

Wrinkles first rose to internet fame several years back. It all started when a grainy low-resolution video of a terrifying clown slowly coming out from underneath a child’s bed was posted on YouTube. It quickly went viral, and suddenly the legend of Wrinkles the Clown was born. There were Wrinkles sightings across the state of Florida, freaking locals out. And kids calling what they believed to be Wrinkles’ phone number and seeing if he’d pick up became a rite of passage, much like saying “Bloody Mary” five times in front of a mirror was for previous generations. Only in this case, Wrinkles actually was a real guy.

This new documentary from filmmaker Michael Beach Nichols explores the man behind the terrifying mask, a man who inspired a wave of copycat “creepy clown sightings” all across America not long after. It will explores how quickly urban legends can take hold in the age of YouTube and social media. Even as such, things are easier to debunk as hoaxes than ever before. Wrinkles The Clown will premiere at Fantastic Fest, and then hits theaters and digital on October 4th. Yup, the same day that Joker hits theaters, so you can have a double dose of clown induced panic.

Underwater ‘Observatory’ Vanishes Without a Trace in Germany

https://nerdist.com/article/underwater-observatory-vanishes-without-trace/

Ever lost, say, a sock in the dryer or a bobby pin around the bathroom sink? How about a 1,600-pound ocean-based sensor that collects environmental data and costs about $333,000? It sounds like a real headache. Sadly it’s one German researchers are having to deal with after finding out that their “Boknis Eck” observatory is now missing. And yes, authority suspects foul play.

The chewed-through fiber-optic cable is Boknis Eck’s only remnant.

Smithsonian picked up on the news of the missing ocean observatory, which comes out of Eckernförde Bay, a Förde in Germany, that’s north of the capital city of Kiel. The trouble started on August 21, when researchers at GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel stopped receiving data transmissions from Eck. At first, GEOMAR’s team thought that the issue was a simple transmission error, but when divers went to check on the unit, it had vanished. It left only chewed-through fiber-optic cable used to tether the sensor to the ground.

Eckernförde Bay pinned on a map. Google Maps

GEOMAR notes that the Boknis Eck Observatory includes two desk-sized racks; one of which is responsible for the power supply while the other anchors the station to the coast. On top of the two racks, there’s a frame that carries the observatory’s sensors. (By the way, this is all Google translated from GEOMAR’s blog post regarding the matter, so some of these details may be iffy.)

One of Boknis Eck’s desk-sized components. This one is responsible for power supply.

Dr. Hermann Bange, the Boknis Eck project coordinator, said in GEOMAR’s post that “When the divers reached the bottom of the sea last week at the observatory’s location, they found only the torn off land cable”. He added that “It was completely shredded….”

In regards to function, Boknis Eck takes numerous environmental measurements of the south-western Baltic Sea. The underwater observatory measures everything from methane concentrations on the seabed to flow velocities of water to how much chlorophyll is collecting around the area. So while the actual station may have had a price tag of $333,000, it makes sense that Dr. Bange would refer to the information it provides as “priceless.”

Unfortunately there’s no clear culprit for who or what perpetrated the crime. GEOMAR’s post notes that Boknis Eck’s “connections [to land] are extremely massive,” which probably points to currents, storms, or marine animals as the culprit. Although the researchers, who’ve already called in local police, are leaving the door open to the possibility that people stole the observatory. But who would want a 1,600-pound ocean sensor station? That’s an even bigger mystery than how it vanished in the first place.

Who or what do you think is to blame for the missing Boknis Eck Observatory? Go all Scooby-Doo on us in the comments!
