What’s shakin’ folks! It’s that time  AGAIN!  Check out a new installment of Afronerd Radio’s The Grindhouse broadcast airing this Sunday at 6 p. m. eastern on the BTalk 100 internet radio platform. The topics to be unpacked by your local AFROnerdist hosts are:  two stories hitting the cyberwebs that appear to be seemingly connected….the first story involves the growing popularity of Atlanta, GA restaurant, “The Bando” that channels ghettoized stereotypes with delicacies such as “Crack Wings”

The second narrative highlights certain aspects of the culture/society being lowered stemming from comedienne, Monique’s recent commentary concerning the sloven appearance of some Black women she has encountered during her travels.  Unfortunately, quite a few social media responses were not favorable toward her (rather astute) observations:

The Vertigo comic, Sweet Tooth gets its close up/cinematic translation via Netflix as it premieres this weekend; TheMarySue.com site highlights up and coming Blerd and CEO (Weird Enough Productions), Tony Weaver and his manga series, The Uncommons; hopefully, Dburt will get around to actually having that state of crypto discussion; sci-fi/afrofuturism author, N.K. Jemisin, just inked a 7-figure deal with TriStar Pictures allowing her to adapt her Broken Earth trilogy to film.  Lastly, after discussing the cancellation of Netflix’ Jupiter’s Legacy and how we thought that a low budget might’ve been an issue….well it turns out it cost 200M!!!  Where did the money go?

Sports Illustrated’s Black History Moment? Black Widow’s B.O. Performance; Alan Moore & Comic Creator Woes; Black (Male) Erasure is Real; First UK Football Now Lewis Hamilton? Loki Thru a Black Lens?-The Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

http://www.afronerd.com/2021/07/sports-illustrateds-black-history.html

Cheers, people!  Let's get to it with the swiftness.  Listen to the latest installment of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 platform.  The topics to be discussed by your competent AFROnerdist hosts are as follows:  the annual Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue has arrived but not without controversy.  The current magazine is sporting three separate covers featuring tennis champion, Naomi Osaka; rapper, Megan Thee Stallion, and model/actor, Lenya Bloom, the first transgender person to share the feature spot....we give our thoughts; Marvel's long-awaited and highly anticipated film, Black Widow entered its second week of release with a precipitous drop in revenue and now the speculators are wondering why did it happen and, does this spell trouble for Disney's decade-plus commercial streak?; something we failed to address during Sunday's Grindhouse show, must be addressed-the finances of our favorite comic creators.  the daughter of noted graphic novelist, Alan Moore explains and defends her father concerning his consistent critique of the comic industry's long-standing failure to pay writers fairly for their IPs that have gone on to become billion-dollar franchises;

Dburt has some thoughts about a recent commentary by recent guest, Dr. T. Hasan Johnson concerning the not-so-subtle obfuscation of Black men and their accomplishments by mainstream media;  Didn't we just dissect the UK racism story involving vitriol spewed toward black British football players?  Well let's fast forward to the hatred foisted upon Formula One racing great, Lewis Hamilton, who received online racist barbs after he won the British Grand Prix; Lastly, educator/progressive pundit and resident blerd, Dr. Jason Johnson has some rather interesting "black lens" thoughts pertaining to Disney +'s Loki finale.

One thing that Dburt is doing (finally) is investing in cryptocurrency, courtesy of Roundlyx. We would implore our followers to investigate, discern and then explore by using our referral code: afro-87A4BF

Young M.A Responds To Rumors That She’s Pregnant

Unexpectedly, “Off the Yak” rapper Young M.A was trending on social media yesterday after rumors swirled that she was pregnant.

Essentially, the rumor stemmed from an interview the rapper did with Dish Nation’s radio personality Headkrack. When he’d asked her, “Can you see yourself being a parent?” she responded by saying, “Absolutely, I’m going to be married by then.”

Clearly, the interview must have gotten misconstrued and spread out of context somehow. Young M.A went on to explain that she’d like to have a boy before having a girl since that’s how she was raised — with an older brother to look out for her. She’d like her future daughter to experience that as well.

“I told my girl this,” the rapper explained to Headkrack. “I said ‘I rather a boy first because he’ll be the one taking care of his little sister.’ And he gotta hold her down ’cause that’s how [it] was with me. My brother was… My big brother, rest in peace. And then my mom had me… So, he made sure I was straight even though I learned from him, at the same time, it made me thorough.”

“So, that’s kinda what I want,” she continued. “I want my little girl to be thorough, too, like her brother.”

The clip of their interview had Young M.A — also known for her hits “OOOUUU” and “Successful” — ablaze on Twitter with people tweeting things like:

When The Shade Room posted the clip of the radio interview she’d done, the rapper went to the comments to address the false rumors that she was expecting. She simply emphasized, “Of course my girl is the one that’s gone be pregnant that’s why I looked at her and mentioned her smh.. y’all bored lol but I get it.. sell ya stories ?  and we workin on one now ? .”

Indie Radar: Games to Look Out for if You Want to Root for Everyone Black

https://blacknerdproblems.com/indie-radar-games-to-look-out-for/

E3 has come and gone with all the big-name games taking the spotlight. Unfortunately, a lot of lesser-known indie games, which arguably need more attention than the big wigs, are being overshadowed. This sucks, because there are a lot of really dope video games coming from some awesome Black devs out there. So, why not do our part and talk about some new and upcoming games from Black developers that you might want to check out in the near future.

Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield – Aerial_Knight

Sometimes you wanna just vibe out with a game and what better way to do that than an endless runner? Better yet, one with a killer soundtrack. Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield is one of the few games on this list that’s already out. Recently released and created by indie dev Neil Jones aka Aerial_Knight himself, with help from Head Up Games. This endless runner is a fun side scroller with a story to tell and plenty of obstacles to hop, dash, and dodge. Like most games in this genre, there is a moderate level of challenge that comes with nailing the right moves to keep moving. Once you’re in the groove, that’s when the game really shines. Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield is available right now on Steam, Epic Games Store, and all major consoles.

Coreupt – Team Coreupt

Coreupt has been on my radar since last year. You gotta love games made by fighting game fans because there is a certain level of detail that only they can get right. The same is true of Jesse Wright and Coreupt, a 3D fighting game taking inspiration from other fast-paced and combo-heavy games like Street Fighter. This indie game is still early in development, but it’s already catching the eye of plenty in the fighting game community. It’s definitely visually impressive, sporting graphics comparable to current-gen 3D games. From what Wright has shown, the character designs are unique, and the gameplay has a certain pop to it. Looking forward to seeing how this game shapes up in the coming future. For now, players can head on over to Wright’s Twitter page where he constantly gives fans development updates.

Grid Force: Mask of the Goddess – Playtra Games

I know we have plenty of Mega Man Battle Network fans out there and like all things Mega Man, if Capcom won’t keep the spirit of those games alive, others will. Grid Force: Mask of the Goddess is being developed by Playtra Games, a studio founded by Dan Bernardo. This grid-based shoot‘em up looks hectic, fun, and fast-paced with the added element of strategy and focus to its shooting gameplay. What makes this game unique is the promise of a cast made of all female characters, more than 35 of which will be playable. In an interview with Pink News, Dan Bernardo emphasized the decision to make a game with all female characters, stating “All of us had a female, a very strong female person, who taught each one of us messages about perseverance and survival.” In the interview, he also discusses the importance of including LGBT+ stories and adding female writers to the project. Grid Force: Mask of the Goddess is set to arrive sometime later this year, and you can wishlist Grid Force on Steam right now.

5 Force Fighters – Kazien Creed

This is another fighting game, because we love that shit. Less than a week into its Kickstarter, 5 Force Fighters already made its Kickstarter goal and then some. If you love Marvel vs. Capcom or Dragon Ball FighterZ, you might want to pay attention. 5 Force Fighters is a hand-drawn 2D fighter with a striking comic book art style. It’s one of those hyperactive fighting games where your opponents get launched into the sky and combos last as long as you can make them. As the title suggests, five unique fighters make up the game so far along with a story mode, training mode, and ranked online play, rollback netcode, and more. Kaizen Creed has a heavy Twitter presence, where fans can stay updated on the ongoing development of the game. While 5 Force Fighters is planned to release next year, you can add the game to your Steam wishlist and still contribute to the Kickstarter to help creators Kazien Creed reach their stretch goals.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits – Ember Lab

Indie Games

Perhaps the most high-profile indie game on our list, Kena: Bridge of Spirits has the distinction of being one of the few games coming exclusively to PlayStation systems (PS4/PS5) and the Epic Games Store. This adventure is a story-driven game being made by Ember Lab, a studio formed by brothers Mike and Josh Grier. The two are putting the studio’s animation skills to the test (they are best known for their Majora’s Mask: Terrible Fate fan short) as Kena sports gorgeous 3D animated visuals that could easily be confused for a Pixar film. Previews have been positive as the game looks to throw players into a world of magic, spirits, and combat with an interesting system that involves the companion characters you meet throughout the story. It’s also one of the few games out right now that is taking advantage of the Dualsense haptic feedback controller. While Kena: Bridge of Spirits has been featured pretty heavily on PlayStation’s marketing and showcases, there still feels like it has a few surprises up its sleeve and plenty of wonders when it drops this August.
