Oppenheimer is finally heading to your streaming screens. If you didn’t catch the movie in theaters over the summer, you can find it streaming on Peacock beginning on February 16.

You can check out what we thought of the film, below.

Madame Web Suit First-Look Comes From an Unlikely Source

Sometimes our first looks at movies come from trailers, magazines, or dramatic social media drops. But we were treated to our first look at Madame Web‘s supersuit from the most unlikely of sources, a bottle of Ocean Spray cranberry juice. Absolutely iconic.

Here’s everything we know about the movie so far.

Lost David Lynch Dune 2 Script Uncovered

As we prepare to experience Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two this summer, another Dune 2 has emerged. This extra Dune comes in the form of a recently uncovered script for David Lynch’s Dune 2, Dune Messiah. The script was thought to be lost, but we can finally dive deep into its contents. You can take a look at what adventures the half-finished script holds over at Wired. Spoilers: It involves “a shape-shifting ‘face dancer.’” Yikes.

In the meantime, here’s everything we know about Dune: Part Two.

Patrick Stewart Says a Picard Movie Script Is in the Works

Hold onto your hats because a Picard movie could be coming our way. Patrick Stewart shared with the Happy Sad Confused podcast that a script had been written for him in the role. He notes, via Gizmodo, “I heard only last night about a [movie] script that is being written, but written specifically with the actor, Patrick [Stewart], to play in it… And I’ve been told to expect to receive it within a week or so. I’m so excited because it sounds like the kind of project where the experimentation that I want to do will be essential for this kind of material. It’s good at 83.”

This podcast filmed quite a while ago, so, chances are, Patrick Stewart has already seen a version of the possible Picard movie.

It’s a good thing too, because a Picard movie is exactly the story Patrick Stewart has been hoping for.

Incredibly Long Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Godzilla RC Figure Has Landed

How often can you say a figure is longer than it is tall? Well, this Godzilla RC figure from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire certainly takes the prize for one of the longest figures we’ve seen. It’s got its pink on, it’s ready to blow some heat-ray breath, and it’s 25 inches long. (And only 12.5 inches tall.)

Robert Downey Jr. Dramatically Recites a Taylor Swift Song

Who doesn’t need to hear Iron Man dramatically recite a Taylor Swift song? We’re obsessed. At the start of his interview with W Magazine, Robert Downey Jr. took a little time to give us a dramatic reading of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space.” We want for nothing.

Unfortunately, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark will stay dead in the MCU and won’t be able to catch the latest hits from Taylor Swift.

Another meeting of strange bedfellows included Harrison Ford and… a chair. Yes, Ford struck a pose with Suzume‘s iconic chair at the Golden Globes. This chair, of course, is also one of Suzume‘s main characters, Souta, transformed. We don’t know who is luckier to meet who. But we are seated should they ever want to make a movie together.

We thought Suzume was an absolutely iconic movie.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Promises to Preserve Kevin Conroy’s Final Batman Performance

Kevin Conroy’s final performance as Batman can be found in the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game. Since this is a live-service game, fans worried that if service to the game were ever to be stopped, the performance would be lost. But, as we saw via Comicbook.com, Rocksteady Production has promised to launch an offline version of the game to preserve the performance.

Rocksteady Production Manager Jack Hackett shared, “I completely understand that concern. To be clear, we’ve really heard that, and I understand the concern. Obviously, in the short term, that’s not any kind of risk, but I’m happy to tell you that we will support, post-launch, an offline mode where you can play through the story of this game in perpetuity. We hope to deliver that in 2024. That’s our goal. I won’t promise that under all circumstances. But, I totally get that kind of archival concern about a game like this.”

Tekken 8 Meets Succession‘s Brian Cox in Hilarious Collaboration

What could you need more in your life than Succession’s Brian Cox explaining the Tekken universe to you? Very little. We particularly love Cox’s emphasis on how the franchise loves fathers that throw their sons off cliffs. It’s poetic. And also informative. Tekken 8 will release on January 26, 2024, so you have a lot of time to review the franchise’s history with Cox.

Stylist Dione Davis Teaches Us How To Layer For The Winter

https://www.essence.com/fashion/stylist-dione-davis-teaches-us-how-to-layer-for-the-winter/

By Kerane Marcellus ·Updated January 13, 2024

New York-based stylist Dione Davis has been using layering as a styling hack for years in the New York winters. Originally from Alabama, she’s no stranger to a harsh winter. She’s been in the fashion industry styling for brands like Tibi and magazine editorials for a decade. Her focus on clean lines and effortless chic show that she’s always had an affinity for fashion, and her ballet background gives her an edge that not all stylists have. Balance is the key word to use when describing her styling work—the proportions are always just right. The minimal aesthetics she shows her layering skills on is a great starting point. She says that your closet essentials for layering should be “pieces that are malleable, minimal, and able to create dimension to an outfit while providing an array of texture mixes.”

Davis says items like cardigans, bodysuits, tights, skirts, crewneck sweaters, and sheet tops or dresses are great items to start with in building your essential layering winter wardrobe. A few things that are on her ever-growing wishlist are knit skirts and tube dresses to “keep building upon layering dresses and skirts over pants in ways that don’t feel tired.” She also says that you don’t need that many items in your closet to achieve these layered looks; about seven items are more than enough to mix and match to create multiple looks. You can also thrift most, if not all, of these pieces and get more for your money if you are one to look at your buy-per-wear ratio.

Davis says her favorite way to layer includes a lace catsuit (you don’t hear that often! Pay close attention to her detailed eye.) She says, “I like to use a lace catsuit as a layer because I don’t wear a lot of colors and rely on texture to build out looks with neutrals.” So if you’re more of a neutral dresser, let the texture speak for itself.

Look 1 Over the catsuit, she layers tailored trousers (no pleats) to then layer a skirt over it. Yes, skirts over pants are back! She warns, “Don’t layer a midi skirt with pants that are too wide. We must learn from our mistakes from the 2000s.”  Then she takes a cardigan or pullover and wears it open just on my shoulders and ties it up the back. Giving you this look below. A good boot or sneaker combo goes with this look effortlessly. Stylist Dione Davis Teaches Us How To Layer For The Winter Look 2

When layering a coat over any outfit, Davis suggests ” something long and lean is great on top or A-line to create a dynamic shape.”

If your coat is a darker shade, opt for a pop of color with your accessories, like gloves or a hat, to break up the dimensions.

“I like using a tailored suit as a base and layer a sheer dress over pants, then a tube top or bandeau on top of the dress, then the blazer to top it off. It draws your gaze to the full look examining it. The best outfits make people realize how clever you are if that’s something you aspire to. I welcome it as a challenge to wear the same things again and to layer them in different ways. You can always remove the blazer, and you’re essentially in a spring look.”

The fashion enthusiast uses tailored suiting as her starting point for in-between weather where it’s a bit too hot or cold, and you must dress in the middle. “I like using a tailored suit as a base and layer a sheer dress over pants.”

“It draws your gaze to the full look examining it.” That it does as not many think to assemble clothing in this way

Davis says, “The best outfits make people realize how clever you are if that’s something you aspire to.” Layering is the perfect opportunity to stretch your visual creativity.

Layer scarves over cropped leather bomber jackets. Skirts over tapered pants call for a cozy and chic winter. Stylist Dione Davis Teaches Us How To Layer For The Winter

Davis challenges those who want to take on more layered looks this winter. “I welcome it as a challenge to wear the same things again and to layer them different ways. You can always remove the blazer, and you’re essentially in a spring look. ” Try these layering tips all winter long and into the spring.

How To Achieve Critics’ Choice Award Winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s Renaissance-Blonde Look

The Holdovers’s Da’vine Joy Randolph took home the trophy for Best Supporting Actress at the 29th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards last night. And, in our book, she won the award for “Most Bey-licious Beauty Look,” too. “The inspiration was for us to channel our inner Queen B,” Celebrity Hairstylist, Taijé Simon tells ESSENCE. “Da’vine is a blonde bombshell at heart so I had to make the fantasy come true.”

And that said, Da’Vine embodied “Beyoncé blonde” perfectly. “We set out to achieve the renaissance effect,” Simon says. To achieve Randolph’s look, the hair stylist colored a custom wig with Schwarzkoph Professionals’ latest color innovation. “I used wella IGORA ROYAL® (5-57) at the root tap of the unit, wella IGORA ROYAL® (7-57) on the shadow root, and wella color touch (10-3) all over.” Randolph’s brown roots and blonde tresses– a deviation from her normal dark hair look– reminded us of the chameleon-like versatility of the award-winning actress.

A post shared by Sheika Daley (@officialsheiks)

After coloring the hair, Simon used K18’s detox shampoo, protective conditioner, and hair repair products to give the look a lustrous finish. But what’s a wig without the install? For this, the hair stylist used her personal favorite, “the love bond system by TLC With Taije,” she says, melting the lace to a tea. Blending in seamlessly, Randolph’s blonde hair complemented her soft, classic makeup look: brown-lined rosy gloss, creamy blush, and natural shadows.

“The inspiration for the look was soft Hollywood glamor,” Makeup Artist, Sheika Daley says on Instagram. “With Da’Vine’s new hair color being blonde, I wanted to go with a soft contour and a beautiful peachy glow.” On a full coverage, matte base, Daley applied Lancôme’s Sparkling Pêche highlighter, Beige Brûlé eyeshadows, and a matte lip under sparkly gloss to complete the glamorous beauty look. And the best part of all? As Simon says, “I love to always make my clients look and feel amazing. Nothing brings me more joy than that.”

In The Studio: Bernard James

https://www.essence.com/fashion/in-the-studio-bernard-james/

By Cortne Bonilla ·Updated January 13, 2024

If you were to take a stroll through Brooklyn, you’d notice two directions: not the north and the south, but the old and the new. Electric bicycles are installed beside skewed cobblestone >Bernard James, fashion’s beloved fine-jewelry designer.

The neighborhood may be changing, but James is setting out to remain faithful to his vision of Brooklyn. It’s a vision based on raw talent, artistic pursuits and, most important, authenticity. His jewelry designs reflect this affirmation, integrating traditional craftsmanship with contemporary forms, spurred by an upbringing surrounded by antiques and aged houses. “As I approach jewelry and design, I think a lot about how objects have a life of their own,” says James. This inquisitiveness, as well as the capacity to see value in the past, is what makes his jewelry stand out. His Williamsburg studio holds the same balance of old and new—with a natural garden he was proud to restore, a skylight beaming with overhead shine, and a warmth that makes friends and customers reluctant to depart.

In The Studio: Bernard James Rasaan Wyzard

He didn’t start out in the jewelry business. His first pivotal memories of jewelry came from a kiosk at the Green Acres mall, an iconic New York shopping center in Valley Stream—where his sister bought him a basketball pendant—and from an initialed gold signet ring given to him by an aunt. Thus, his love for personal, signature jewelry was planted. His appreciation of longevity and value, however, was instilled long before. “My dad was very much an entrepreneur,” he explains, “and part of his office was an antique store. He was a collector, but one who understood the value of the old world. I think seeing the longevity of objects, and seeing how rare some things had become, was a big interest to me.”

After attending Collegiate, an all-boys high school in New York City, James studied business at Carnegie Mellon, then transferred to New York University to be closer to the energy of the city. Business courses taught James the core values of running a shop, while hands-on experience gave him the confidence, connections and inspiration he needed to strike out on his own. He started small: “I wanted to dip my feet in, and I thought, What’s the smallest thing I can afford and handle from a design standpoint?” For him, jewelry was the perfect medium because of the scale, precision, function and design involved. “I did it casually at first,” he recalls, “making pieces for friends and myself.” Yearning to diversify the jewelry market, he began with a men’s offering, as he had noticed how hard it was to find men’s jewelry that he loved. The silhouette of the signet ring gifted to him by his aunt eventually resurfaced as the Cole signet ring.

In The Studio: Bernard James Rasaan Wyzard

In a serendipitous New York connection, James’s barber introduced him to his uncle Dennis, who turned out to be an OG jewelry craftsman on 47th Street, the city’s diamond district. From him, James learned the ins and outs of the diamond business and concluded that truly pleasing jewelry stems from the memories and personal stories it conjures. He made his pieces in Dennis’s Crown Heights townhouse for the first couple of years, laying the foundation for what the brand is today.

You can sense the level of his dedication to community in everything James does. He features close friends and loved ones in his Family Portraits campaign, which began in 2020 and spotlights individuals from various backgrounds that have inspired him and the brand. And he has trusted New York–based clientele in and outside of the fashion industry, including Christopher John Rogers, Matthew Henson, Quil Lemons, Telsha Anderson-Boone and more. His clients become friends, and his consumers became family—earning him well-deserved awards over time, such as ESSENCE’s Best in Black Fashion’s 2023 Accessories Designer of the Year. He was also selected for Saks’ Emerging Designer Accelerator Program.

To set his brand apart from the rest, he says, he homed in on “making things that a lot of people enjoy but are very specifically the brand, all without restricting the desire to explore individuality.” That specific, meticulous notion drew a cult-like following eager to embrace the brand—and prompted the Natural Diamond Council to take notice. “I like things that last,” James says. “My jewelry is supposed to live with you and withstand life.”

In The Studio: Bernard James Rasaan Wyzard

Still based in Brooklyn, James continues to explore the possibilities of jewelry-making with each capsule collection. The first, Pave Flora, is a nod to his growing up across the street from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden —and to the effortless harmony of nature. “For this collection, it’s been fascinating to approach the design process with the diamond in mind,” he says. He sees the collection as another turning point, one that will enable him to play and explore in his own way.

In The Studio: Bernard James Rasaan Wyzard

As he walks through the sunny studio, he reflects that his desire to acquire a chrome chair he saw for sale in the Hamptons is perhaps an homage to his father’s passion for collecting. It’s akin to the subconscious emotions customers feel when they wear James’s pieces. “I’ve always been obsessed with brands that have a sense of intimacy and community,” he says. “The idea of being connected to someone through brand messaging is how I think of the phrase, ‘If you know, you know.’” That messaging can be seen everywhere in his studio—from the Fungi collection to the sculptural-yet-inviting burgundy Sarah Favreau “Those Who Saw” artwork on the wall (the artist created it as an ode to unrequited love and self-discovery) to the hidden backyard oasis, which is more of a conversation pit than a garden and is the place his community gathers when visiting his studio.

There’s so much coming down the pike for James these days, even as he stays connected to his roots. “I’m always going to be inspired by Brooklyn,” he says.

“I know I want an international brand, beyond the walls of New York City, but the base of the brand will always be Brooklyn. It’s so integral to my upbringing and what the brand stands for. I always want to make sure that I serve the community that I’m in.”
