This simple experiment with oil and water will introduce the concept of polarity and density to your child.  Younger children will also enjoy this as a sensory project, too. As you experiment, ask your child questions that encourages him to observe and hypothesize.  Does the oil and water mix? What happens when you whisk the two ingredients together vigorously? What happens when you let the solution sit still over time?
