Recap

The Badlands

Lydia (Orla Brady) wakes up from the blast with dead bodies, body parts, guts strewn about. Quinn (Martin Csokas) and his soldiers cut the throats of the clippers still whole.  Lydia looks on in horror when Quinn notices her.  “Hello, Lydia,” Quinn greets her with a sword full of blood pointed at her.  Inside, she explains that she wanted to avenge her son.  When Declan (Karl Shields) reports that he was unable to find Veil, he orders him to continue the search.  Lydia sees that her husband hasn’t learned his lesson trying to win a younger woman.  Quinn explains that he gave Ryder the chance to kill him but he hesitated.  Lydia has no such qualms when he gives her a knife.  However, he blocks her blow easily, then proceeds to cut himself and puts a fingertip of blood on her mouth.  They start to make out.  Alrighty then.

Veil (Madeleine Mantock) wakes up baby Henry so he can soak in nature.  When he starts crying, she continues to run.  Declan is on the hunt.  Just as he is closing in, a runaway woman gets Veil away.  They are picked up by the Widow’s (Emily Beecham) guys and brought to the sanctuary.  She notices Tilda (Ally Ioannides) and wants to see the Widow. Fortunately, Tilda was already on her way to see “mother.”

Earlier Tilda was talking with Odessa (Maddison Jaizani), who wanted to leave upon hearing the Widow was teaming up with Quinn.  She was his cog for several years so believed the Widow had selfish reasons just like any other Baron.  Tilda explains why she calls the Widow “mother.” The Widow’s husband molested her and the Widow killed him the night Tilda had decided to kill herself.  Odessa decides to stay after hearing the story but for Tilda, not for her mother.  Odessa then kisses Tilda, who is surprised by the move. She kisses Odessa back when she moves on her again.  Waldo (Stephen Lang) catches them before things go further.  He warns her again not to follow the path of Sunny.

Veil retells what happened to her at Quinn’s compound.  Minerva is of course sympathetic and Waldo offers her a place to stay with the Widow.  Veil is tasked with telling the Widow where Quinn’s compound is and interpret her book that MK (Aramis Knight) stole back in Season 1.

The Widow invites Quinn to a meeting.  She wants him to come alone.  He doesn’t of course and takes out one of her guards.  Tilda takes out one of his clippers to even the odds.  Quinn and the Widow talk alone.  Minerva gives her proposal for a team up.  Quinn will consider it if she gives up Veil and Henry.  He knows that’s the only way she found his compound.  She has half an hour to consider it.

The Widow thinks it over and asks if Veil had interpreted the book.  She hasn’t.  The Widow pulls out the poison that Veil told Tilda to use back last season.  Oops.  For that reason, and the fact that she needs the alliance, she has no choice but to give up Veil and Henry to Quinn.

Sunny (Danny Wu) brings Portia (Farzana Dua Elahe) to a healer she knows. She’s going to make it thank goodness.  The healer is grateful he brought her to him.  He freely gives Sunny the gas he needs for the car.

MK is saved by Ava (Eve Connolly) before getting killed by a guy he stole food from.  Ava wants to keep moving since the abbots will be hunting them down.  They come across Blanca Park hotel.  MK wants to rest and eat.  Ava wants to keep moving since the abbots have a device that can track their gift.  MK wants to know why he didn’t turn when the guy cut him. Ava thinks it has to do with what he saw in the mirror chamber.  They head towards shelter.

Bajie (Nick Frost) is getting high when he notices a truck drive up.  The abbots get out taking out the tracking device with the same symbol that was on MK’s necklace and the Widow’s book.  Bajie warns Sunny that someone dangerous is here.  Sunny hides.  The abbots find where Bajie is hiding with the device going hot and cold. The abbots leave thinking MK is somewhere close by but not in the building.  Sunny confronts Bajie wondering who they are. He explains that they are abbots.  He doesn’t want to help Sunny even though the clipper wants to get MK.  Sunny leaves without him.

MK and Ava find sanctuary in a “winter wonderland.” They are curious as to what everyone was celebrating a long time ago.  Ava feels lost now that she is disillusioned about the Master. Later MK finds a magazine with Azra’s symbol.  He thinks the Master lied and they can find Azra on their own because it really existed.  The abbots show up.  Sunny finds MK and Ava first before the abbots surround them.

The fight is on.  Sunny and the others are not doing too hot.  Sunny suggests MK cut himself to even the odds but MK is stuck.  However, Ava still has her ability.  She turns and the abbots do as well.  The fight intensifies with Sunny having a rematch with Cyan (Cung Lee).  Things are still not going well for our heroes when MK and Sunny are taken out of commission. Ava is barely holding her own when the Cyan hits her hard enough she flies.  When MK comes to, she is impaled on a metal object that was sticking out.  Bajie comes to the rescue by running the abbots over with the car.  Two of the them recover only for Ava to kill one of them before collapsing.

Sunny wakes up to see Cyan call Bajie “brother.”  The abbot also notes that big man lost his powers.  Bajie still knows some moves as he paralyzes his “brother.” Sunny finishes him but not before the abbot hits him in the chest area.  MK holds Ava as she dies.  Then Sunny collapses.  What the hell did the abbot do to Sunny’s heart?!

Review

Thank goodness Sunny moved on without Portia and Amelia.  At least Portia will be okay for the time being because of the help she received. Whew!

I apologize for the upcoming cursing that will follow.

I’m asking this question because what just happened in this episode did not need to happen. Bad decisions have come biting back a few assess this week.  Leopards were definitely stalking through snow this week and got some prey.

This is what I want to do to MK

He should’ve stayed at the monastery.  If he stayed he would’ve learned as many skills as possible, including turning into trance mode without cutting himself or turning the lights on with his powers!  Ava would be alive.  Sunny would not have heart problems.  On another note, if MK had stayed where he was, Sunny would not have found out Bajie’s secret about being an abbot which was an awesome surprise!  The rematch between the head abbot and Sunny had to happen but I think it sucks that Sunny had to cheat thanks to Bajie to defeat him.  At the same time though, use what you have. Shout out to Cung Lee too! He was great as the head abbot Cyan!

I need to know more about Bajie’s past!  I knew when he was hiding and the abbot’s tracking device blipped that he had the gift.  Will what Baijie went through to get rid of his gift happen to MK as well?  I can’t wait to see more of the Master Chip Chung!  Maybe MK will get much needed training from Bajie since he was an abbot.

I liked Ava darn it! She didn’t deserve to die! I will give this to Ava though.  She went out swinging and managed to bring down one of the abbots with her. See what training gets you MK? You probably could’ve taken the other abbot out if you had enough training instead of being stubborn.  My guess is that Sunny will now have heart problems, courtesy of head abbot, or the abbot may have passed his powers to Sunny.

The setting for the fight scene is gorgeous! Winter Wonderland was perfect! I also appreciated the moment between MK and Ava about them not realizing that the props were for Christmas holiday.  It’s been so long that they didn’t recognize anything related to the holiday.  MK finding the magazine with the Azra building was timely too.  The magazine was like a tech one which makes me think Azra is a place where there were some tech advances made or maybe even ground zero.  It could also be where the first people with abilities was made or born.

Good job Veil! Wake up your sleeping baby while you are on the run knowing you are being hunted!  If it wasn’t for that lady you would’ve gotten caught. Oh, but wait, because you tried to get Tilda to murder The Widow way back when she turns you over to Quinn to secure the unholy alliance she needs.  I’m sure you are regretting that now aren’t you?   Better yet, if you had let Quinn die, then the Widow would not have had to give you up right?  Albeit she would be screwed going against the other barons but that’s semantics.  I think The Widow and Quinn would make an awesome team but she needs to be ready the moment the other barons are dead. I know Waldo is going to be pissed!

The actual meeting between Quinn and The Widow was a great scene! From the stance the Widow makes to Quinn’s show of typical male aggression by moving his sword to between her legs.  I loved that the Widow removed that sword using her own. There was just the right amount of tension between the two leaders vying for dominance in that conversation.

I’m not surprised Lydia would have sex with Quinn despite him killing their son.  She knows Ryder was a punk. Their relationship has always been on the twisty sick side.  If they are officially back together then hopefully he can be less creepy towards Veil.  I do think that Veil could have an ally in Lydia when she gets back to the compound because Lydia is not having Quinn lust after someone again.

Odessa stirring up stuff just like I knew she would.  Now she’s hitting on Tilda and wants to “stay” for her.  Odessa, telling you the story of how she loves the Widow was a warning.  Tilda will always be loyal to her.  Trying to mess that up may get you killed.  I do understand Waldo’s warning too because of what happened to Sunny.  I just hope Tilda doesn’t let Odessa come between her and the Widow’s plans. I want her to be happy just not with Odessa, maybe another girl. Forget MK.  I’m not sure but I thought Odessa was older by several years.  With her in the butterfly outfit she looks much closer to Tilda’s age.

This episode was awesome in several ways with the reveals, the settings, the fight scenes as usual, pacing, but frustrating at the same time because of the decisions a few characters made.

What did you think of the episode? What’s going to happen to Sunny?!  Sound off below in the comments!
