Former South African President Jacob Zuma will be indicted for corruption over a $2.5 billion arms deal, but he is planning to fight the 16 charges that will be brought against him.

“After consideration of the matter, I am of the view that there are reasonable prospects of successful prosecution of Mr Zuma on the charges listed in the indictment,” chief state prosecutor Shaun Abrahams said on Friday.

The charges, stemming from a 90s land deal, have been hanging over Zuma for over a decade. The Supreme Court of Appeal in October upheld a lower court ruling that the decision to drop the charges in 2009 was “irrational,” Bloomberg reports.
 
As it stands, Zuma is facing twelve fraud charges, one racketeering charge, two corruption and one money laundering charge.  

The charges come soon after Zuma was forced to step down as president last month and replaced by new ruling party leader, Cyril Ramaphosa. 

Zuma has denied all the allegations against him.
