Pee-wee Herman‘s headlining film debut, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. It’s the first movie Tim Burton directed, and many fans hold the opinion that it’s still his greatest—or at the very least, his most quotable! And it is still a movie that absolutely works for both children and adults. Now, thanks to Boing Boing, we’ve learned about the Wren family from Texas. They used their quarantine time to recreate almost the entirety of Pee-wee’s Big Adventure film with their young son, Roosevelt. It’s the most delightful and so sweet. You can check out the full 49 minutes of Roosevelt’s Big Adventure below:

The Wren family describes their creative endeavor as “a retelling of the classic 1985 movie by one of Pee-wee’s biggest & smallest fans—this was all his idea! Created during quarantine with what we had.”

This delightful fan film covers the plot of most of the movie, starting with Pee-wee waking up in his giant toy emporium of a house. Yes, you even get to see Roosevelt feed his pancakes, eggs, and bacon a serving of Mr. T Cereal just like in the movie. Speaking of, special kudos to to the family for creating a box of this long gone artifact of ’80s kitsch.

They made the whole thing with a budget of what seems to be about $5. Nevertheless, the Wren family lovingly nails the film’s narrative from start to finish. And being from Texas, that meant they could use the actual Alamo, and not just a digital backdrop. How awesome is that?

Luckily, someone found a way to make sure that Paul Reubens himself saw the video. He was so impressed with what Roosevelt and his family accomplished, he shared the video on his blog. We can only imagine young Roosevelt was through the roof when his hero gave him the P.W. Herman seal of approval.
