EXCLUSIVE: Psychological Thriller ‘DELUGE’ Arrives from the Depths Come October

While we are hyped for the Writer Stephanie Williams and artist Letizia Cadonici team project of Roots of Madness, Ignition Press sent over another first look at another comic series also coming this October: DELUGE.

Writer Cullen Bunn (Harrow County, Bone Parish) and artist Marika Cresta (Captain Carter, Dr. Aphra) invite readers to delve into the dark waters of their new five-issue limited series Deluge, debuting this October from Ignition Press.

A hard rain is falling on Sieverville Correctional Prison for Women. As the river rises and its banks overflow, the same walls that are keeping the prisoners inside the fortress-like structure are failing to keep the water out.

With that water comes something else. Something deadly.

What was once outside is now inside, and the prisoners and guards will have to find a way to get free, because if the water doesn’t get them, the monsters will.

In this terrifying new horror series, readers will follow a group of female inmates as they attempt to traverse the flood waters while also avoiding both the very real monsters that are swimming beneath the surface and the proverbial monsters from their lives before incarceration that lurk inside themselves.

“There will come a moment, while reading Deluge, that you think you know what kind of horror story you’re getting. Then, there will be another moment during which you realize everything you thought was wrong,” explained co-creator and writer Cullen Bunn. “Once you get to that moment, you’ll realize anything can happen and we’ll stop at nothing to scare the Hell out of you. Marika and I have a twisty, turny, nail-biting tale of sin, grief, guilt, loss, and terror for you, and once the rain starts falling, there is no turning back.”

Beneath the murky surface, a new kind of inmate awaits. The water’s rising, and so is the terror,” added co-creator and artist Marika Cresta. “No bars can hold the darkness that lurks below. Escape is not an option… it’s a death sentence.”

Deluge #1 is available in comic shops October 8th from writer Cullen Bunn and artist Marika Cresta, with colors by Ronda Pattison and lettering by AndWorld Design. This issue features two open-to-order covers from Riley Rossmo (The Moon Will Follow Us) and Marika Cresta & Ronda Pattison, and a 1:5 variant cover from James Stokoe (Orc Stain, Orphan and the Five Beasts).

To guarantee a copy, make sure you contact and reserve your copy with your local comic shop by no later than Monday, September 1st. To find a comic shop near you, go to findyourcomic.store. Copies of the standalone introductory comic – Deluge: The Cold Open – along with limited edition merchandise are available now directly from Ignition Press at ignitionpress.com.

“This book has everything that Cullen Bunn is good at: atmosphere, mood, and character,” added Ignition Press Editor-in-Chief Jamie S. Rich. “The central threat in the book, and the location where the tale is taking place, might be confining for the characters, but it’s not for Cullen, who finds every nuance and potentiality in the story of the women who first found themselves trapped by the prison walls, but not find they are further confined by the rain. Marika and Ronda are the perfect artistic partners to bring this all to life. Their attention to detail is impeccable.”
