It was a hot night in Atlanta and the line was long. Over 400 people piled into the building, cascading yellow light cascading of the slick walls. Atlanta showed out for HBO’s The Watchmen screening in a big way, with more bodies than chairs getting ready to see HBO’s newest epic. The Sunday night ritual (not to be confused with the Sunday truce from The Wire, a participant of the ritual) of having a blockbuster TV show in the primetime spot was magnified to dizzying levels with Game of Thrones. Now, Game of Thrones is gone, but the excitement for The Watchmen screening may prove that Sunday nights still have a full dance card for the network.
This was the second of screenings for the Watchmen, the first taking place at NYCC. While that screening was a big event taking place at a huge, multi-genre event, the event that took place in Atlanta had a different excitement for it. People put on pants just to be there, stood in line under a setting Georgia sun, then sat on barstools to watch the hour-long show. The first episode (and the subsequent ones) are arresting in it’s imagery and spectacle. Gasps, breathlessness and more laughs than you would expect were a garnish upon the evening. Atlanta came out to see a show and they got one.
I was lucky to be in the building for all of it, on a panel that followed the screening hosted by the peerless Kid Fury. My fellow panelists Karama Horne aka The Blerdgurl and Tatiana King Jones of the famed For All Nerds podcast and myself volleyed our impressions back and forth. We dove into our first impressions, how it relates to the Watchmen graphic novel, the maturation of comic book lore and what storytelling looks like in this social climate. And Regina King. We could’ve talked about Regina King and her character Sister Night well into the morning hours. We tried. They had to kick us off the stage.
Following the panel was the reception with food, photographs, drinks and mingling. General conversation happened of course, but what everyone really wanted to talk about was more Watchmen. The event had mad that type of impact on people. This is no small thing. The event was Blerds and built for the Black Atlanta community. HBO has no shortage of Black viewers and subscribers, but those audiences are often so specific. Insecure and Black Lady Sketch show are obvious answers. But many of the Triple-A budget shows lack people of color or their perspective. Regina King is the star and the cast boasts a huge diverse range of performers. But this isn’t a zeroed in perspective, this is one of HBO’s next landmark series aimed at capturing everyone. It was inspiring to see that in Atlanta (and I imagine everyone by the end of the week) was there for it.

There’s no question that the City Girls had an amazing summer. But with the release of JT and the birth of Caresha (Yung Miami) Brownlee’s daughter, it looks like the fall won’t be half bad either.
Yung Miami welcomed a daughter she named Summer Miami. She announced the newborn’s arrival on her Instagram page.
In the second photo, she showed her boyfriend Southside, a music producer, asleep next to baby Summer.
We already know that her partner in rhyme is excited for the arrival. JT, who is currently living part time in a halfway house until March, completing the rest of her sentence, left a comment on the post.
“Auntie snook snook now it’s 3 city girls let’s get it.”

So happy & blessed. 
We’re so happy that Summer Miami arrived safely. While Caresha’s pregnancy seemed to be a healthy one, the life of she and her baby were threatened this past August when the car she was riding in was shot up as she left the studio.
While Yung Miami initially took a while to announce her pregnancy, fearing that it would impact the trajectory of their career, especially with her being the only one out and able to work, it seems like the group will be just fine. If they can survive incarceration, a beautiful baby doesn’t have to stop the show.
This is Yung Miami’s second child. She has a six-year-old son named Jai.
Congratulations and thank God for a healthy baby and safe delivery.
In a funny example of esports becoming increasingly indistinguishable from regular sports, Razer used athlete endorsements as proof of how great its new Viper Ultimate Wireless Mouse is. After all, when there’s potentially thousands of dollars on the line, you absolutely need to trust that your mouse will line up that perfect headshot. So it takes a lot to shift that trust to a new device, even from a trusted brand like Razer.
My needs are nothing like that. I get paid to write about video games, not play them at a professional skill level. But after using it for a few days the Razer Viper still impressed me with how it makes wires basically irrelevant.
Razer tossed out a lot of snappy buzzwords to explain what makes using the Viper so smooth and seamless. And they are pretty cool explanations. Instead of a mechanical switch the 5G optical switch uses a laser beam for faster 20,000 DPI responses as well as less repeated physical wear and tear to keep up durability across 70 million clicks. The new Razer Blade 15 Advanced laptop (now available alongside a cute Quartz Pink base model) uses similar tech for its keyboard.
The “HyperSpeed” wireless technology claims to be 25 percent faster than the competition, with data packet transmission under 200. That and adaptive frequency eliminate lag even when near a bunch of other wireless devices. And other little hardware tricks include syncing your motion and calculating how you lift off and land to prevent nasty interruptions.
But what matters is the feel. Razer could show me all the graphs in the world, but what’s really convincing is just using the mouse for yourself. And again, while I’m no esports star, I definitely appreciated the bump up in quality. It’s almost too lightweight and responsive, suddenly the mouse cursor became a far more accurate representation of how jittery my hands can be. But you can adjust the sensitivity along with the button profiles. With tweaking, my aim definitely became better in PC shooters like Counter-Strike.
And in a little Pepsi Challenge I was doomed to fail, I couldn’t tell the difference between using the mouse wirelessly (up to 70 hours) or with its braided cable connected directly to the computer. Granted, I didn’t try that hard, but if you have to really scrutinize to tell the difference then Razer basically accomplished their goal.
At $150, the Razer Viper Ultimate Wireless Mouse definitely wants you to pay for this premium experience. But sometimes that’s worth it. The Razer Blade 15 Studio Edition costs $4,000 because its a real workstation for professional editing. With this mouse, your profession is just you being the best player you can be.

It was only a matter of time before the hordes of reboot zombies besetting our great nation caught the epitome of 90s high school fluff in their gaping, drooling maws. CBS TV Studios has a pilot in the works for an hour-long drama based on the iconic film Clueless.
The project is from Will and Grace writers Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey, and the series is described by Deadline as:
…a Mean Girls meets Riverdale meets a Lizzo music video — is also set in high school. It is described as a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latté and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when the high school Queen Bee (Cher) disappears and her life-long number two (Dionne) steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend, all in a setting that is uniquely 2020 LA?
Now, I love the idea of focusing on Dionne and not Cher. We need more black and WOC leads in general, but the rest of that summary makes me want to claw my eyes out at the trying way too hard of it all. Between Riverdale and The Politician and Gossip Girl and Euphoria don’t we have enough High Schoolers living more debaucherous lives than most adults can dream of?
Also! Clueless was a modern take on Emma by Jane Austen, a story of a sweet but misguided girl who likes to meddle in her friends’ love lives. If you want a property to re-imagine – do that!
I mean honestly, CBS, let this one stay dead. Especially given that a key studio looking at the project is The CW, which is owned in part by CBS. The CW already has Riverdale and Nancy Drew (and All American!) – this is not a big hole in their lineup that they need to fill. Clueless is a perfect, fun movie of its time. We don’t need to screw with it – especially because it already was a series (With Eugene Levy!) that I watched an embarrassing number of episodes of. I beg of you, TV Gods, spend money and time on literally anything else.
