Here’s what we reviewed in comics this week that you might want to check out:
Action Comics #1022
One of the biggest chuckles of the issue comes when Superman calls in reinforcements to look into Conner’s backstory and everyone slowly realizes—and quickly accepts—that there’s multiple universe. There’s even a joke about how many times DC has been rebooted.
Birds of Prey #1
In short, the respective Birds of Prey all get wrapped up in a case of a drug cartel bringing fentanyl into Gotham City. As they come together to take on their shared enemy, they earn each other’s trust and respect and show us what their motivations are. They’re all deeply flawed but looking to be better.
Faithless Vol. 1
Best way that I can describe Faithless is that is a supernatural horror erotica comic, and those adjectives may or may not be in the correct order. This is very much a not safe work piece of fiction, rated M for mature, but if you’re willing to take the plunge, you’ll be treated to a visually tantalizing book that re-contextualizes the unholy trinity of sex, death, and magic. And as sacrilegious as it might be to say, I think that’s a good thing.
John Constantine: Hellblazer #6
Constantine, as a character, has this commendable ability where he’s so cool under the worst kinds of pressure that you genuinely believe everything will be fine. His actions in this issue are no different. Even as he’s being brought to the brink of death, he’s almost certain he’ll be fine and is more focused about saving someone else. He also has more than his fair share of witty commentary on global politics, which I’m always a fan of. (Note: Keep putting politics in my comics.)
A Man Among Ye #1 (Advanced Review)
Anne’s introduction as a bold and brazen as any pirate fan could hope for. Her aura is commanding and while she might not be the captain of the vessel, she still gets the job done. Although, this is still 1720 we’re talking about here, the majority of the crew doesn’t exactly hold her in the highest esteem, but that’s just the way things were… and are to degree.

Mark Rober, the YouTuber and former NASA engineer responsible for everything from blasting porch pirates with glitter bombs to educating people on how germs spread, has made a squirrel-proof bird feeder for his latest project. And if that doesn’t sound like one of the most exciting backyard projects ever, you have made a mistake. Because Rober’s squirrel-proof bird feeder is also a squirrel obstacle course and squirrels, apparently, are little furry ninjas.
Rober recently posted the epic squirrel obstacle course to his YouTube channel, noting that this was his mechanical solution to the problem of squirrels stealing bird seed from his bird feeder. But because Rober’s solutions to everyday problems come from a brain that builds Mars rovers, they come out like this.

The squirrel obstacle course features a bunch of obstacles that look like American Ninja Warrior, and one that literally is. The obstacles range from a treacherous horizontal rope ladder to a large maze to a pad that launches any squirrels that stand on it for too long. And the reward? A full chest of walnuts—which, if you were unaware, are squirrels first choice in nuts.
The best part of the video—aside from the innovative course itself—are the four squirrel contestants who run the course in the video. The squirrel contestants, which are all as athletic as a “rodent sized Simone Biles,” feature Marty, Frank, Rick, and Phat Gus. Although Phat Gus has a name change occur midway through the video; you’ll have to watch to find out why.

Ultimately, Rober notes that the squirrel obstacle course demonstrates just how crafty and physiologically tuned the little rodents are. And it is indeed hard to overstate just how incredible squirrels are at retrieving nuts. In fact, you could say their abilities are totally… bananas.

I wonder how Colin Kaepernick feels about this-60 North Carolina police officers knelt before before demonstrators during a stand off relating to the tragic police killing of George Floyd; we'll also try to address some of the lighter issues we failed to address on the preceding Sunday's Grindhouse broadcast; thoughts about Blackout Tuesday and recent accusations that the popular TikToK social media platform censors black creatives; well they do say (some) kids can be cruel.....and it's evident when Middle School students reenact the Floyd murder for laughs (damn...); umm...we are still in the midst of a pandemic, right?; and to lighten the load.....are the CW's Batwoman writers going to actually write out the "batwoman" character from the self titled show? ; well....HBO Max has officially christened their DC cinematic section as the DC Extended Universe....so do I cancel my DC Universe subscription now? GamesRadar and Newsarama merge for some reason....; Marvel and DC exclaim support for the black community; nerd virus alert.....an Ayer Cut-for Suicide Squad?
