Debris is one of my favorite shows new to this year. I have always been a sci-fi nerd so this is right up my alley. For those of you who are interested in Debris but have not watched it yet, there are mild spoilers in this panel so go watch it first then come back. The cast and creator discuss how the show really focuses on people and relationships, not just science fiction all though there is plenty of that. Human connection is something that has been lacking during this pandemic time and a real focal point of the series.

Jonathan Tucker, Riann Steele, Norbert Leo Butz, Scroobius Pip, and creator, showrunner, and executive producer J.H. Wyman comprise the panel as the panelists go over the feel of the show, chemistry reads, casting, story concepts, and the complexities of the various characters.

If you are a fan of sci-fi take a chance on this 5 year + in the making sci fi show on NBC.

From writer/director James Gunn comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ superhero action adventure The Suicide Squad, featuring a collection of the most degenerate delinquents in the DC lineup. Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out — even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment?

Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin, and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself).

If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them. The film stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, Joaquín Cosio, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Nathan Fillion, Steve Agee, Sean Gunn, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Jennifer Holland and Tinashe Kajese, with Sylvester Stallone, and Viola Davis.

Gunn directs from his own screenplay, based on characters from DC. The film is produced by Charles Roven and Peter Safran, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Walter Hamada, Chantal Nong Vo, Nikolas Korda and Richard Suckle executive producing.

The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is set for release nationwide in theaters and IMAX on August 6, 2021 and will be available on HBO Max for 31 days from theatrical release.

A recent Forbes piece ponders there appears to be a double standard along political lines concerning who can say what and not get brought into a controversy: a story that we failed to address a few shows ago connects to the reparations discussion-a LA County official is mulling over the return of beachfront to the family of the original Black owners; the Marvel's Avengers video game has a new trailer showcasing a forthcoming War for Wakanda expansion: 

And speaking of reparations, it appears that Evanston, Illinois is a test case for some Black residents receiving a stipend for past discriminatory practices; a proposal in Congress would deem June 19th a national holiday to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved Africans in North America; lastly, it looks like notable CBS TV producer/writer, Chuck Lorre (Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men) is under Twitter fire for his new show, United States of Al concerning his handling of an Afghan character.

Do you ever watch a movie and wonder who it is for if not for you? Maybe not the entire movie, maybe it’s just one specific moment but the thought still crosses your mind. Who out there also wants to see whatever is happening on screen? Do you have comrades in this strange fight? Well, that’s how I felt when Chris Pine, as Steve Trevor, handcuffed himself to Pedro Pascal’s Max Lord in Wonder Woman 1984.

Imagine you’re me and you’re watching Wonder Woman 1984. I love Diana Prince, and two of my favorite actors alive are Chris Pine and Pedro Pascal. Not to mention that I’m definitely a Kristen Wiig type when it comes to my own brand of comedy. So it’s very much a movie for me. What I, personally, didn’t expect was for Chris Pine and Pedro Pascal to literally be handcuffed together.

Put yourself in my shoes: You’re watching a movie, two actors you love who are attractive are in it, and they’re suddenly handcuffed together. Now that’s not fair.

What’s also not fair is that I feel like I’m the only one who recognized that this scene happened and exists and im talking about it? Sure, there’s a lot to talk about with Wonder Woman 1984, and everyone moved on pretty quickly with its negative reception, and now Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but come on. Chris Pine and Pedro Pascal were handcuffed together and did this fun little dance move and we just collectively LET IT GO?!

I wish I could express just how rent-free this lives in my brain. Truly, if I’m not thinking about something for all of five seconds, in pops this little scene and I remember that Patty Jenkins is secretly my friend who has my best interests at heart. Maybe it’s because I’ve been trapped inside for over a year now or maybe I would have still reacted this way given normal circumstances, but whatever the case, watching Pedro Pascal and Chris Pine hold each other while handcuffed together is something so personal to me.

Is there more footage of this scene somewhere? Can I watch just an hour of footage from this day and see all the takes of the two of them just … walking around, arms bound together? I’m asking for my sanity. I would just have it playing on repeat in my home every single day if you want to give that to me.

I may never recover from the art that is this one singular moment in Wonder Woman 1984, but at least I know I will always have it. Just quiet my mind, think happy thoughts, and there pops in Pedro Pascal and Chris Pine looking peak ’80s and staring into each other’s eyes. Truly, someone set this scene to “I Love You Always Forever” by Donna Lewis just so I can have it.
