Good evening, folks, Today I want to discuss some information about the expansion of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland! So, let’s get started!  The grounds near Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion will be expanded to accommodate a larger outdoor queue and a Madame Leota-themed retail shop, theme park officials announced last Tuesday. Construction on the new project will begin in January 2024, with the new additions expected to “build on the story and lore of the Haunted Mansion.” “The expanded queue will tie into these stories and more, including new gardens inspired by Master Gracey, Madame Leota and the one-eyed cat,” the Disney Parks blog said. Officials announced that the gardens will be decorated with elements ranging from a water fountain and gazebo to themed statuary and landscaping. The expansion will be a welcome addition for guests since the walkways in New Orleans Square, where the Haunted Mansion ride is located, can become congested with guests coming from or entering the various rides and restaurants in the area. Haunted Mansion fans will be happy to know that the pet cemetery and horse-drawn funeral hearse will still be located on the attraction grounds, according to a news release. Guests will disabilities will also be able to utilize a new elevator exit when they ride the attraction. The plaza adjacent to the new Tiana’s Palace will also receive new enhancements, theme park officials said. Also, as a reminder that Tiana’s Palace will be opening up on September 7^th.  The area will be transformed into a “park-like setting” where parkgoers can relax and enjoy live entertainment. More details about the project are expected to be released in the coming months. I think that this is a really interesting project and I am curious to see it when its all set and done. I think Disneyland wants more guests to come and visit more so that the parks can be really busy and not being left out and letting Universal Studios Hollywood get all the attention out of Disney. I believe that Disney wants fans to like Disney more than Universal. Of course, that’s just my own opinion, but that is what I believe.

It doesn’t matter how many home invasion movies we watch in our lives. They will ALWAYS scare us. The same is true of alien invasion films. Each is an established horror movie trope for good reason. They play on the fear of seeing the place we feel safest turned into the scene of our worst nightmare. There’s something uniquely awful about having our personal sanctuary violated. Now Hulu is going to try and deliver something truly horrific by combining both in No One Will Save You, a film from 20th Century Studios called a “sci-fi psychological thriller.” We don’t know if we’ll be thrilled by something so unsettling, but the creepy first trailer for No One Will Save You proves it’ll certainly frighten us.

No. No, I don’t like that. By “that” I mean how upsetting this premise makes me feel. As for the No One Will Save You trailer and premise, I like both a lot. This feels like Signs crossed with a Jordan Peele movie, The Strangers, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. That’s a pretty good recipe for a story that will have us cowering under our blanket the first time we hear a creak in the night.

This is the second film from writer-director Brian Duffield (Spontaneous). It stars Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) as Brynn. In a press release Disney describes Brynn as a “formidable fighter when it comes to her unwelcome and unearthly intruders.” Her gumption standing up to supreme beings will confuse her new space enemies. But monsters from another world aren’t the only thing she’ll be battling. The film’s official synopsis says the horror movie “is an action-packed face-off between Brynn and a host of extraterrestrial beings who threaten her future while forcing her to deal with her past.”

Facing both intergalactic invaders and your regrets? Forget combining two classic horror tropes. Dealing with our past might be even scarier than an alien home invasion.

No One Will Save You arrives on Hulu in the US on September 22, 2023. That’s also when it debuts on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ everywhere else.

You might want to think twice about posting a back-to-school picture of your child online.

Parents might unknowingly be putting their children at risk by following the social media trend. Online safety experts say these innocent pictures can be used maliciously by scammers and predators, HuffPost reported.

The back-to-school post trend sometimes includes images with details like the name of a school, a teacher’s name, a child’s birthday, and more. If you don’t want someone showing up to your child’s school unannounced, you might want to hold back on sharing these details. The Director of Privacy Innovation at Norton, Iskander Sanchez-Rola, warned that “anyone can know where your child is a majority of the day, Monday through Friday.” That’s a scary thought for any parent.

The director told HuffPost, “Scammers can also easily identify a child by searching their full name or reverse image searching a photo of their face shared online.” The director added, “If your child is old enough to have social media like Facebook or Instagram, cybercriminals can use their name and image to find their account and directly contact them.”

Google’s Help page explains that a reverse image search works like searching for a word or phrase. The page explains what you can expect to find when you drag and drop an image in Google’s search bar: “Search results for objects in the image, similar images, and websites with the image or a similar image.”

HuffPost also noted that a photo of your young child or teenager might cause problems in their social circles as they age. Just because you think it’s cute doesn’t mean your child will when they get older. “Lots of kids worry that their friends or schoolmates could see embarrassing posts of them online, and what may be a silly photo or video to you may seem very embarrassing to them,” Kaitlin Allair Tiches, a research librarian with the Boston Children’s Digital Wellness Lab said.

Boynton Chapel Methodist Church, located in Houston’s Third Ward community, was designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, the highest honor the State of Texas can give a historic building.

The church was built in 1957, designed by John S. Chase, Texas’s first Black licensed architect and a founder of the Texas Southern University art department. According to the Houston Chronicle, some of the church’s members included Houston civil rights activists Christina Adair and Magdelean “Mama” Bush and Dr. Forde B. McWilliams, one of the first Black veterinarians in Texas. 

The congregation’s history stretches back to the early 1880s when the church was known as Dallas Street Methodist Episcopal Church, and it met in the home of one of its founders. Later, the property was purchased at Dallas and Paige Streets, and the church’s name was changed to Boynton Chapel Methodist Episcopal. Since Black people were not allowed to swim in public swimming pools, the church provided areas like a swimming pool, gym, and classrooms where vocational training was provided to adults. 

Boynton Chapel provided John S. Chase with one of his first major opportunities. After he designed the church, he designed TSU’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law, the Martin Luther King Jr. School of Communications, and the Booker T. Washington High School in Houston. Chase’s son, Tony, told the Houston Chronicle, “Dad’s honors thesis for his master’s at UT was about the Black church and the design and spirit of the Black church, so he was heavily invested in the development of the Black church, both physically and spiritually. It was also a practical matter … because, frankly, that’s the place in the Black community where there was capital and a lot of growth and construction going on.”

The University of Houston is also located in Third Ward, and two of its students were integral in ensuring the church received landmark status. In 2021, Walker Shores helped the church become a Protected Landmark of the City of Houston along with Sam Osemwingie, who helped ensure the church became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. The church currently needs repairs to its air conditioning system, drainage system, sanctuary windows, and bell tower, but received help from Urbano Architects, who offered to perform an architectural building survey, which usually costs $15,000, for no cost. 

The church has been a fixture in Third Ward for many years, and one-half of the first couple married in the church remembers what it meant to the community that Chase designed the church. Eighty-six-year-old Dorothy Murphy, whose husband, Albert, has since passed, told the Chronicle, “I remember when it opened, it was new and different from most of the other churches, both inside and out.” 

“People heard John Chase’s name and knew who he was—that he was the first Black architect in Texas and graduated from UT. It was something people wanted to drive by and see.”
