The last season of The Rookie was not one of the show’s finest hours. The whole of season 6 faced issues, with a shortened episode length and an overarching villain story that didn’t work well, but season 7 aims to fix all that.

The Rookie has been one of ABC’s procedural drama fixtures for six years. Other than following the character of John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), who decides to make a huge career change in his mid-40s and become the oldest rookie in the LAPD, the show follows many of the standard tropes of the genre. Over the years, Nolan has made his fair share of enemies, including corrupt lawyer Monica Stevens (Bridget Regan). She was the overarching villain of the sixth season, which chronicled her rise and demise in just ten episodes.

The first batch of mini-episodes dropped in July, and this is the second batch of four coming our way. We don’t yet know when the final two batches will be released, but we have received some information about the seven episodes arriving on Disney+ next month.

Ten years ago, when I was starting to get into anime, Netflix’s library had a lot to be desired. There was enough to get me hooked into the genre, but not enough to keep me on the platform. And Netflix’s original anime? Disappointing, at best.

A lot has changed in ten years. Researching this piece, I was constantly thrown into delighted surprise at how many incredible series are now available on Netflix. I was also shocked at the number of amazing series I had to leave off: Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Devilman Crybaby, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Komi Can’t Communicate, The Way of the Househusband, Romantic Killer. And those are just the Netflix originals.
