As if Donald Trump’s presidential re-election wasn’t embarrassing enough for Americans, Fox News is now honoring him with a “Patriot of the Year” award.
The announcement seems like it should be satire, but unfortunately, it’s true. The president-elect has frequently tried to capitalize on the concept of patriotism, calling his loyalists “true patriots” and announcing the future belongs to patriots. Of course, MAGA has also embraced this label and insisted that they, too, are “patriots.” However, most people recognize that Trump is the farthest thing one could be from a patriot. He has never stood for or been willing to defend and sacrifice for his country. He used his wealth and influence to dodge the draft five times to avoid serving his country. Despite never serving, he showed no hesitation in mocking prisoners of war and calling fallen soldiers “suckers” and “losers.” Then, he became president to increase his own wealth and power.

As her 16th birthday approaches, a not-so-average teen rediscovers the fiery powers she’s long suppressed and is forced to face her demons — literally.
I love cartoons, and I love a good coming of age story told via animation, obviously a big fan of Invincible Fight Girl in recent days. So when I stumbled upon the trailer of Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld, I knew that I wanted to see more.
Synopsis: The series follows Jentry Chau (voiced by Ali Wong), a Chinese-American teen living in a small Texas town, who finds out a demon king is hunting her for the supernatural powers she’s been working her whole life to repress. With the help of her weapons expert great-aunt and a millennia-old jiangshi (Chinese hopping vampire), Jentry must now fight an entire underworld’s worth of monsters while balancing the horrors of high school.
Created by Echo Wu, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld is a new animated series that follows a Chinese-American high schooler whose life is turned upside down when a dangerous demon king tries to steal her powers. But, make no mistake, Jentry is also navigating her share of traditional teenage problems — like exploring romantic interests, grappling with an adult who always thinks they know best, and contorting to maintain high social standing among her peers. Despite its heavy serving of all things supernatural, it’s largely rooted in true-to-life themes that’ll resonate with folks of all ages, from all walks of life.
“Sometimes finding your self-identity is coming face-to-face with your own demons,” Wu tells Tudum. That sentiment was the writers room’s north star as they worked on the series. “There are different layers to what that means. [It] rings quite true in Jentry. [She’s] trying to figure out what these powers mean to her. Are they part of her? Are they cursing her? You see this character trying to figure out who she is.”
Here at BNP, we’re big fans of Ali Wong and as my favorite comment by @Germania9 on the official trailer noted this series is giving “Really strong Jake Long/Juniper Lee vibes here.” My God, what a early 2000’s throwback–I love that Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld looks like a throwback to cartoons of old and still something new, something worth watching. I love a good story with a supernatural twist and I’m excited to see this series pop off with these strong coming of age vibes. As a big fan of folklore from around the world, I cannot wait to see this series interpretation of the jiangshi (Chinese hopping vampire) in a modern day setting. All in all, here’s to an exciting new series debuting on Netflix, soon!

Whether speaking to children about college costs or aging parents about living expenses, openly discussing money issues with family is crucial, though sometimes difficult.
Producing multigenerational wealth is a goal for many people. Yet, that planning process should not solely be about preserving wealth. Instead, it should be about cultivating funds to help build perpetual prosperity for future generations.
Orcas have apparently taken a break from sinking luxury yachts so they can focus on themselves. The animals have brought back an old whale fashion trend that hasn’t been in style in nearly four decades. This year’s hottest ocean look is once again wearing a dead salmon as a hat.
Orcas apparently went through their parents closets and loved what they found. In a story we first heard about at ScienceAlert, scientists spotted a pod of the whales off North America’s west coast swimming with dead salmons on their head. This is the first time the unusual behavior has been seen in 37 years. This sudden resurgence of an something so strange raises some pretty obvious and, more importantly, vital question. First, “LOL wut?” Second, “No, seriously, what the hell is this about?“
Well, no one really knows! This all started in the Pacific northeast in 1987 when a female orca started carrying a dead salmon on her nose. Pretty soon her fellow whales near Puget Sound were doing the same. But by 1988 that fishy conduct was already passé. The orcas gave up their dead salmon hats as quickly as they adopted it and they never did it again. Until now.

in 1987 an orca decided to put a dead salmon on her head like a hat
Why bring this look back now? Researchers speculate it could be a type of storage or the intelligent animals being playful. It might even have some social significance within the group or simply feel good. But the possible “why” isn’t even as much fun as the possible “who.”
These could be the same whales that wore dead salmon hats in the late ’80s! This retro look is taking off not far from where it first began and orcas live a long time.

These whales might not have gone through their parents closets at all. They might be wearing their old clothes. And if that’s the case good for them. Better yet, good for us. We’ve been looking for an excuse to bust out our old Starter Jackets. If an orca can wear a dead salmon on their head 37 years after it was hip we can wear a puffy Charlotte Hornets coat.
