A woman flew with United Airlines, only to hear what she described as the most perilous song while landing. “Hallelujah,” a classic written by Leonard Cohen and covered by thousands of artists across multiple genres, blasted through the speakers after the plane’s wheels touched the ground.
That moment struck a nerve, according to TikTok user Paige Ruder (@paigegettingpaid), who said flying already feels frightening amid recent plane crashes in the United States. She posted her experience with United Airlines in a video with over 4,000 views. That anxiety, combined with the plane playing a praise-filled song like “Hallelujah,” which is traditionally folk but sometimes bluesy, pushed Ruder toward unease rather than calm.
Last year, Black Nerd Problems had the opportunity to speak with Rodney Barnes about his work on CROWNSVILLE, and today we get to start 2026 with an announcement of new work for him!

JANUARY 19, 2025 – First published in 1923, the iconic pulp magazine Weird Tales defined the horror and fantasy genres and helped give rise to icons such as H.P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Ray Bradbury, and C.L. Moore. A century later, Monstrous is teaming up with Weird Tales Magazine to publish the first-ever official Weird Tales graphic novel. — an ambitious adaptation and expansion of the legendary magazine — featuring covers by legendary artists Kelley Jones (Dracula, Sandman) and Eric Powell (The Goon, Dr. Werthless). Fans can follow the pre-launch page now to get an email when the campaign launches, to make sure that they don’t miss early bird specials and limited edition tiers.
The Weird Tales Graphic Novel features adaptations of seminal stories, including:
- An original Lovecraft Mythos Story by Peabody Award-winning screenwriter and producer Rodney Barnes (Killadelphia) with art by Lukas Ketner (Count Crowley)
“For the first time, the weird, the dark, and the wondrous stories that launched the careers of genre legends leap from the pages of the magazine into a stunning graphic novel experience,” said Aquilone. “Editor Jonathan Maberry and President John Harlacher have been doing exciting things since they resurrected Weird Tales in 2019. When it came time to assemble the contributors for the historic first graphic novel, we went big and bold. These stories are worthy of the great, pulp legacy of Weird Tales.”
The graphic novel will be 8.5 by 11-inch prestige hardcover and the campaign will include multiple limited-edition tiers with multiple collectible covers and exclusive rewards, including a Weird Tales challenge coin, T-shirts, and more.
Monstrous has raised more than $500,000 on Kickstarter over the last four years with such projects as Kolchak Meets the Classic Monsters, The Omega Eleven, and Classic Monsters Unleashed. Monstrous and its founder, James Aquilone, have won multiple accolades, including the Bram Stoker Award, Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award, and the Scribe Award from the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers.

Is it wise to mess with blonde perfection? Legally speaking? Well, we suppose we can make an exception if the head blonde in charge herself is involved. Reese Witherspoon and her Hello Sunshine company are teaming up with Amazon to create at least one, and maybe more, Legally Blonde spinoff series. Most recently, we learned that the first Legally Blonde Prime Video spinoff would be a prequel detailing Elle’s high school years. There’s no word about whether Witherspoon will don her signature locks and reprise her role as Elle Woods at any point in this spinoff or any other. But we do finally have a release date for Elle… And news that Elle has already been renewed for season two.
Deadline shares, “One offshoot, which is further along in the development process, is being written by Gossip Girl developers/executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.” Additionally, it notes that Amazon’s acquisition of MGM made this further IP exploration possible. We suppose Gossip Girl‘s helmers would make good sense here, especially if we’re following Elle to high school. But the most important part will be to keep that smart edge of wit and humor alive.
The Prime Video Legally Blonde spinoff is titled Elle, and its logline shares that, “[the series] follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first ‘Legally Blonde’ film.” Additionally, Lexi Minetree has been cast as young Elle.
Reese Witherspoon, the original Elle Woods, shared of the casting, “I’m so thrilled to introduce Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods. ✨The new star of our TV show ELLE! ✨She is stepping into these pink shoes with so much grace, ambition and charm. Elle is coming to Prime Video Summer 2026!”
And now, we officially know that summer means July! Elle, the Legally Blonde spingoff series, will release on July 1. And since Legally Blonde released in July, the spinoff will officially celebrate the movie’s 25th anniversary. Incredible! Witherspoon also revealed Elle was greenlit for a second season! We love to hear it. What like it’s hard?
One thing is for sure: we have our fingers crossed that we’ll see more of Jennifer Coolidge’s Paulette Bonafonté Parcelle in some Legally Blonde spinoff series, if not in this one. Coolidge has seemingly been everywhere in recent years, but Legally Blonde was my first introduction to her. And her character was perfect. We’d also love to see some kind of updated version of the bend and snap or maybe its origin story. And, of course, the spinoff series must have more of Legally Blonde‘s famous pup, Bruiser.
In any case, Legally Blonde, the original, is pure perfection, but we trust Witherspoon knows what she’s doing. Welcome to Prime Video and the land of spinoff series, Elle Woods.
