The amount of unread emails I have is embarrassing. If you could see the little figure that pops up over my email icon, notifying me of how many messages I haven’t opened, you would think that I’m very neglectful of my correspondence, but that isn’t the case. It’s all the spam! It’s all of the emails lettings me know that this place is having a sale and this theater is running this play and this charity needs donations urgently, and this credit card offer is about to expire. Ugh. I get these messages, flooding my inbox, and think, “When did I even give this company my email address??”
The issue with all of the spam emails is threefold. First, if there are too many, it makes it hard for you to even pick out your important emails amongst the sea of spam ones, making it so easy to miss critical messages from, say, your boss or bank. Second, opening some of them can make you vulnerable to viruses, but the subject lines seem so legitimate that, you may make the mistake of clicking “Open.” And third, many are totally legitimate, but promoting deals and sales that you really shouldn’t be looking at. You know you don’t need to buy that month pass to that fancy salon or a new rug, just because the company is running a special.
It seems like some companies must be listening when you simply say your email address out loud to a friend, because you really don’t know how they got your information. It feels like every day, I wake up, open my inbox, and find that five new companies got a hold of my contact information. It’s infuriating. But if you’re going to keep spammers out of your inbox, you need to be oh high alert, like this.
Don’t exchange it for free merchandise
You’re at a mall or bar, and some perky college students representing a new brand approach you, offering you a free thermos, box of chocolate, jewelry, or other product, in exchange for you simply filling out a little card that asks for some information like your email address. Don’t do it. The years of spam email isn’t worth the free Kombucha.

Two old satellites are expected to narrowly sweep past each other in the night sky tomorrow night.
According to LeoLabs, a company that observes spacecraft trajectories, the two satellites—IRAS (13777), a decommissioned space telescope launched in 1983 and GGSE-4 (2828), an experimental U.S. payload launched in 1967, are predicted to have a close-call encounter on Wednesday.

Both satellites are slated to move past each other at 6:39 p.m. ET, at an altitude of approximately 559 miles above Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Due to their movement, they could come into contact within 98 feet of each other. If they have a collision, it could throw off other satellites’ trajectories.

LeoLabs said the probability of a collision was near 1 out of 100, which still raises concerns from the astronomy community. The company will continue to monitor both satellites and provide updates.
“Events like this highlight the need for responsible, timely deorbiting of satellites for space sustainability moving forward,” LeoLabs wrote on Twitter. “We will continue to monitor this event through the coming days and provide updates as available.”

The New York Knicks has hired Steve Stoute’s marketing agency, Translation, to help with its image, according to MSN.
Stoute, a former veteran music industry executive, founded Translation in 2004. It worked with the Brooklyn Nets when they moved to Brooklyn and The Barclay Center back in 2012. Translation plans to develop campaigns and brand programs for the Knicks based on its history, alumni, fan base, and home of Madison Square Garden.
Stoute has gotten a ringing endorsement from Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James. “Stoute’s been a friend [for] a long time. He does amazing work,” James told SNY. “Our beautiful league is always more beautiful when the Knicks matter and the Garden is jumping. I think it’s going to be great.”
“We have a ways to go,” Stoute said in an interview to Bloomberg. “People can say what they want, but the world knows when you get it right — when the New York team is winning — basketball is better. When the New York Knicks are right, the NBA is a better place. That is the opportunity.”
Stoute tells Bloomberg that the Knicks have to separate the Knicks brand from their owner, James Dolan, who is quite unpopular and is the source of the troubles that the Knicks have endured for many years. “His brand, and the New York Knicks brand, and MSG, stand on their own,” he said. “That’s the way it has to be.”
“Winning cures a lot of problems. Great marketing and exciting entertainment cure all problems,” Stoute also said. “The brand has to be strong regardless of the final score. When people are hopeful that things are going to be better, and it brings excitement, all of a sudden that becomes the brand.”
“I have known Steve (Stoute) for many years,” Steve Mills, Knicks president said in a statement, “and I am thrilled to have his knowledge and expertise as we continue to grow the Knicks franchise in new and innovative ways. I look forward to working closer with both him and his team.”
Despite their lack of success in recent years and not winning an NBA championship since 1973, the Knicks remains the league’s most valuable team, according to Forbes, which valued the team at $4 billion in 2019.
