Lena Headey has become an icon to many of us through her social media presence, no f***s given attitude, and witty answers to all our pressing questions about Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones.

So why has she been pretty much off our radar before all of this? Maybe because, earlier in her career, she shut down advances from Harvey Weinstein when she was working on two television shows with the Weinstein Company. Shortly after she laughed at his remarks about her and declined to go to his hotel room, she had a dry spell until Game of ThronesMysterious!

Headey talked to the Sunday Times about the situation and realizing that maybe turning down his advances impacted her career in a way she hadn’t realized before:

“After he was discovered to be a slime ball, on a grander scale than me just knowing it, I did start thinking, ‘F—, maybe because I didn’t shag him, that’s impacted a decade of my working life. Because I did two jobs for [Weinstein’s production company] Miramax before those incidents, and after that there was nothing.”

Of course, the Weinstein Company denies the claim, though, stating that Headey is talented, which … Yes, of course. We know that, but if she’s so talented, why was there a dry spell in her career after this happened?

“Lena Headey is a terrific actor with smart and resourceful agents, as her role for the past eight years on Game of Thrones confirms. There was never anything other than a professional and respectful relationship between Ms. Headey and Mr. Weinstein, and any other assertion is absolutely untrue.”

Why the Weinstein Company is continually trying to save face is still unknown to all of us (we know what Harvey Weinstein did), but it’s suspect that such a talented actress hit a dry spell conveniently after turning down Weinstein, a man who was notorious for trashing the careers of women who refused to have sex with him. (Ashley Judd is among one of the more famous cases of Weinstein doing just that.)

At the end of the day, the Weinstein Company could claim what they want, but it doesn’t change the fact that there are countless women who felt they had to subject themselves to Harvey Weinstein’s predatory nature or suffer the consequences in their careers. He was a menace, someone who cared about his own success and own needs above everyone else.

So, could we have had even more Lena Headey content in our life? Probably, but at least the gods handed her to us in Game of Thrones, and she’s back with a vengeance now. To make it up to her, though, let’s put Lena Headey in everything, please and thank you.

Things We Saw Today: Aquaman Has Astonishingly Made More Money Than All of These Movies

https://www.themarysue.com/aquaman-global-box-office/

Aquaman global box office

I liked Aquaman. The movie was a fun time with some impressively trippy oceanic effects and over-the-top theatrics. It’s a step in the direction of lighter, more vibrant DCEU universe that seems to bode well for Warner Bros. But did anyone expect it to become one of the highest-grossing movies of all time?

I’m not the only one astonished by Aquaman‘s mind-bending success; as CBR points out, the movie has “done better at the box office than anyone could’ve imagined.” Over the weekend, Aquaman swam on up to the #20 spot on the list of the highest-grossing movies worldwide of all time. It’s also the highest grossing DC Comics movie worldwide ever. In the process, it passed quite a few movies that may surprise you.

In terms of superhero movies, Aquaman‘s world box office has easily topped the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy, DeadpoolWonder WomanThor: Ragnarok, The Dark Knight(s), The Hobbit(s), Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeVenomSpider-Man: Homecoming, and Spider-Man 3.

In fact, the only superhero movies that have still grossed more than Aquaman worldwide are Avengers: Infinity War, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, and Captain America: Civil War (which is fast losing ground).

Aquaman‘s numbers have also zoomed past the global box offices for movies you might not expect, like Rogue One, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jurassic Park, The Phantom Menace, The Dark Knight, Finding Nemo, and every Harry Potter film save The Deathly Hallows part 2.

Keep in mind that these are worldwide grosses—domesticallyAquaman is much farther down, at #57, and The Dark Knight and Wonder Woman both best it there, DC-wise. But the worldwide appeal of Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry and the haul Aquaman will end up with is eye-opening. There’s little doubt we’ll have a sequel soon enough, as well as a “horror movie spin off” about The Trench that we’re apparently going to see long before we have a Mera movie, because Poseidon was always the worst god and has no sense of justice.

Runaways #18 Review

http://blacknerdproblems.com/runaways-18-review/

Writer: Rainbow Rowell / Artist: Kris Anka / Marvel

Before we jump into the dopeness that is Runaways #18, can we take a moment and pay homage to Kris Anka?! My guy had been out here serving Runways looks, styles and fashion flex like no other! This cover with all the Runaways slayin in their parents OG murderous pride attire?? Your favorite artist could never. And as I’m sure 90% of Runaways readers know, this is final issue goin Picasso on the panels for Rainbow Rowell and this beautiful series, so let’s enjoy this one for a little while.

It’s looking all the way bad for the Runaways fam. Gibborim got the young heroes hemmed up like Thanos did Loki. These baby giants got em lifted off the ground, feet dangling like Kane bout to hit X-Pac with a choke slam! Alex ‘Betray a Mufucka Quick’ Wilder got Victor by the throat, ready to sacrifice his cyborg soul? to these 3, but Gert has other plans. Her budding relationship with T1000 forced her to think quick and the most unlikely teen saves the day

Runaways #18 Review

Rainbow Rowell, the cliffhanger Queen does not rest in her final pages. After a genuinely heartfelt convo with himself, Alex is fed up. He ghosts the team and is off to screw somebody else over. But what is this? He hath gained a companion, but who could it be?? Smart money is on Molly, but we’ll have to wait until next month to find out!

Before we go, can we get a moment of silence for the fashion game killa, Kris Anka? I mean, look at this panel below! Nico out here rockin a classic, all black number, but it’s all about that attention to detail! That 5 pointed pentagram star!! Karolina ‘Give Me Leg Day or Give Me Death’ Dean with the midriff cross straps and impeccable glow! Molly in her classic Princess Powerful headwear! Chase and his luscious locks flowing in the wind. Maaannn Anka will be missed.

Smart, concise wrap up on this Runaways arc. Rowell leaves us with plenty to get excited, anxious, and skeptical about. Gib being left behind with the team could spell disaster, or he could become the newest member of the villain turned hero club. Will he be replacing the member of the team that bounces with Alex? Will Doombot be revived? Runaways continues to be a fun, beautiful and satisfying comic to look for each month.
