First Lady Theresa Whitfield has an important message for survivors of abuse and violent crimes—you still deserve love and you can heal, forgive and move forward. She knows this firsthand.

In 2007, the unthinkable happened to Whitfield. While attending an event at her church, she was brutally stabbed and sliced by a mentally ill woman. Theresa was holding her baby daughter in her hands during the attack, and although her daughter wasn’t hurt, the doctors used 2,000 stitches to reconstruct Theresa’s face and body. Even though she felt God was telling her to just let go, Theresa fought for her life and prayed for her kids and was given a second chance at life. The horrific attack made national headlines, and Whitfield, who was still lucky to have survived at all, began her journey to healing. Today, Whitfield is wife to Pastor Jonathan B Whitfield, and a proud mother of three adult children. She wrote a book about her pain and her recovery called Celebrating Your Scars: Living Boldly for Christ in January 2011. Although it’s been 12 years since her attack, she still remembers the pain and how she got past it and aims to share her journey with other women through her ministry and open heart.

We sat down with Whitfield to discuss the art of healing and turning pain into progress.

ESSENCE: How were you able to forgive your attacker?

Whitfield: I thank you for that question, because when [back then] started the magazine interviews, and television interviews going throughout the country from state-to-state telling my story and giving my testimony, that was the first question that every woman would ask me. I  guess it wasn’t a processed thought, but it’s something that I was commanded to do being raised as a Christian woman and, and as a minister preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I believe if you minister it enough, and you teach it enough, it’s something that automatically happens. Why? Because we are to forgive in order to be forgiven. And I forgave her because I realized after all this that I had been through, I looked up and I saw that this woman had been through a great deal too. I didn’t have a choice but to forgive. Forgiveness is a commandment and it’s something that we all must do, because it sets us free. When that prosecutor told me that that woman doesn’t even remember me, she doesn’t know my name, she doesn’t know that that attack happened, I said, “Thank you, God,” that I have not been walking in bondage and all in captivity in my mind, you know, and holding a grudge and unforgiveness in my heart, and me being a prisoner. So, I thank God just for freedom, because there is freedom in forgiveness.

ESSENCE: I imagine it was difficult not to be angry.

Whitfield: We have to be careful with that because with unforgiveness comes anger, and bitterness and resentment. A lot of things lie in the root of unforgiveness, which is why it’s imperative for us to forgive. Once you let that in, that’s when you get caught up in that and it’s kinda hard to get out of it. A lot of women are walking around with the anger, but that anger is just a result of something else. It is our job as ministers to now get to the root of the problem. What is actually causing your anger? I believe in my heart that it is truly necessary for all of us to be who we’re supposed to be, and don’t let any situation or circumstance control over us where we’re not everything that we are and supposed to be here in life.

ESSENCE: What was your own personal journey with forgiveness like? And, what advice do you have for other women still trying to get there?

Whitfield: I healed by sharing. I encourage every woman that comes within my path, and when they hear my testimony or read my book, to tell their testimony too. Tell your story. If there’s anybody and everybody that will listen, because the more it is that you tell your story, the more healing it is that you get for yourself. The more and more you release, the more you are set free. And, I don’t start at the attack because the attack is the end resolve. And I don’t know if you had a chance to just uh, bruise through the, the little um, the, the little pages of the book that I have been able to share, but I believe that it, this comes from a long, long line in my life about the things it is that I have gone through, that I have laid dormant inside of me. And I would always ask myself, “God, why so much? Why so much?” But I’ve changed my philosophy, and anything and everything that now approaches in my life is no more longer asking God, “Why?” Now I’m asking Him, “What? You allowed these things to happen. You allowed these things to come. Now, what do you want me to learn from this?” Because as soon as you learn what it is, there it is that you’re going to be able to get over that.

ESSENCE: What would you say to other women who’ve survived domestic abuse or a physical attack?

Whitfield: In my book, I write about knowing who you are. Who are you? Who do you say that you are? Speak those words unto yourself, and if you can’t find any words, then look for the word of God that says who you are. I tell women all the time that you are fearfully and beautifully and wonderfully made, and you are made in the image of God, no matter what it is that you’ve been through, no matter what it is somebody said about you, no matter what the names are that they called you, and no matter what you even think about yourself. You need to speak over yourself and know who you are and then know whose you are, and therefore you shall be empowered. Loving yourself, it’s a commandment from God. It says to love God as you love yourself, and then love your neighbor. And then what we do is we detach from that neighbor part but that neighbor is really you. Love yourself. How is it that we’re able to love others and we cannot love ourselves? You deserve to love yourself.

YG & Kehlani

A little over a month after Kehlani and YG came forward about their relationship to the public, the LA rapper is now caught in a cheating scandal.

Last night, YG was partying at Poppy Night club in LA and ended up reportedly making out with a mystery woman as a night cap. The unidentified woman can be seen crouching in front of the passenger seat of YG’s vehicle before they start sharing kisses. In the footage obtained by The Shade Room, a friend of the woman can be heard saying “wrap this sh*t up,” as the two go at it. Eventually, both crews parted ways.

TSR STAFF: Tanya P.! @Tanyaxpayne ______________________ #TSRExclusive: Roommates, we broke the story that #YG and #Kehlani were officially an item, but looks like the tea doesn’t stop there! Just last night #YG got caught slippin’ after trying to get at a girl outside of Poppy Night club in Los Angeles. ______________ Looks like after a fun night with his crew, YG hopped in a fire red lambo but right before he took off, our video shows he’s talking to a girl who is crouching down for a cute lil’ chit chat. The convo must have been good cause a few seconds later YG lifts his doors to get up close & personal. ________________ After the exchange, the mystery girl’s friend was RET TO GO and wasn’t happy about their cupcake sesh. You can hear her telling her friend to “wrap this sh*t up.” The mystery girl wrapped it up (thanks to her friend) and both women went their way, YG also left with his squad. ________________ The timing is interesting given Kehlani JUST posted a photo of them together just a day ago. There’s no word if YG met the mystery woman that night or—read more by clicking the link in the bio! (?: Backgrid)

After the footage leaked, YG exclusively took The Shade Room that he regrets his decision. “He was drunk, got carried away and it was very regretful for putting himself in that situation and hurting Kehlani. He has no romantic connection to the girl, just aa drunken moment carried away.”

We will see if Kehlani buys that explanation.

It appears the R&B songstress has deleted photos of YG off of her Instagram page in the wake of the news. However,  YG still has flicks of Kehlani on his page.

Kamala Harris Cuts Staff, Restructures Campaign For Iowa Caucus Blitz

https://www.blackenterprise.com/kamala-harris-cuts-staff-restructures-campaign/

With roughly three months before the first contest of the Democratic presidential primary season, Sen. Kamala Harris is placing all her political chips on Iowa. In a memo sent to staff and top donors, campaign manager Juan Rodriguez spelled out how the California senator was radically restructuring operations to maximize outreach throughout the state. To bolster its war chest and beef up its ground game at this most critical stage, the campaign blitz calls for significantly slashing salaries and staff at its Baltimore headquarters as well as redeploying those operating out of campaign offices in New Hampshire, Nevada, and California to Iowa “for the home stretch of the caucus campaign.”

“To effectively compete with the top campaigns and make the necessary investments in the critical final 100 days to the caucus, we need to reduce expenditures elsewhere and realign resources. From the beginning of this campaign, Kamala Harris and this team set out with one goal—to win the nomination and defeat Donald Trump in 2020. This requires us to make difficult strategic decisions and make clear priorities, not threaten to drop out or deploy gimmicks,” the memo stated.

News of the realignment was first reported by Politico and news organizations like CBS News obtained copies of the memo.

Kamala Harris campaign memo

The memo further stated that Harris has raised a total of $35 million through 350,000 donors. But the campaign has yet to recapture the momentum gained after the first Democratic debate in June. Since then she has seen a precipitous drop in both campaign contributions and poll standings. For instance, CBS News reported that Harris raised $11.7 million in the third quarter behind the campaigns of Sen. Bernie Sanders ($25.3 million), Sen. Elizabeth Warren ($24.6 million), former Vice President Joe Biden ($15.7 million), and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg ($19.1 million). She also trails behind them in the latest polls—as pointed out in The New York Times on Wednesday, despite the diverse field of candidates, all Democratic frontrunners are white.

Based on historical trends, Harris believes that she can reverse her electoral fortunes in the Hawkeye State. According to the memo, she “will continue to spend significant time in Iowa” throughout the month of November, including through the Thanksgiving holiday. Rodriguez wrote in the memo: “She is determined to earn the support of every caucus goer she can in the next 96 days.”

Political observers maintain that this type of radical repositioning has not been an unusual tact heading into presidential primaries—especially with an emphasis on the Iowa Caucus. Such a massive overhaul, however, must occur by the beginning of November to amass resources necessary for impact. In fact, the Harris campaign pointed to past presidential nominees on both sides of the aisle to communicate that the realignment could prove to be a successful strategy for Iowa and beyond. The memo stated: “Plenty of winning primary campaigns, like John Kerry’s in 2004 and John McCain’s in 2008, have had to make tough choices on their way to the nomination, and this is no different.”

It was announced that former NFL player Kassim Osgood has joined the C3 International Board of Advisors. C3 International Inc. manufactures the unique intellectual property for Idrasil, which is a holistic alternative to addictive opiates and life-threatening narcotics.

Idrasil is the first standardized form of medical cannabis. It is a superior alternative to opiates and life-threatening narcotics as it offers all of the medicinal analgesic and therapeutic benefits of cannabis.

Idrasil bills itself as a treatment for various conditions that include, but are not limited to, AIDS; anorexia; arthritis; autism; anxiety/depression; cancer; chronic pain; glaucoma; migraines; persistent muscle spasms; Parkinson’s; seizures; severe nausea; Tourette’s Syndrome, and any other chronic or a persistent medical symptoms that substantially limit major life activities as defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

“The NFL uses millions of dollars in opioid-based products from pharmaceutical companies,” said Kassim Osgood in a statement. “Idrasil is the better alternative that nobody is talking about yet. Getting everyone’s heroes addicted to pain medicine to combat trauma in one of the most dangerous sports in the world is a tragedy that is not getting enough coverage.”

“We are incredibly proud to have football legend Kassim Osgood on board with us,” said Steele Clarke Smith III, chairman and CEO of C3 International. “Osgood’s willingness, participation, and dedication to Idrasil demonstrates our proven capacity to deliver positive change and solutions to athletes suffering from pain.”

Osgood is a retired All-Pro football player, actor, and entrepreneur. Prior to joining C3 International, he attended and played football at both Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and San Diego State University. In 2003, Osgood signed with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent and also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, and San Francisco 49ers. He was a three-time Pro Bowl selection for his Outstanding Performance on Special Teams and was also named to the All-Pro team.
