Welcome to Afronerd Radio’s Mid Week in Review broadcast airing every Wednesday at 8 pm eastern on the BTalk 100 platform.  Due to time constraints, we’re just going to delve into the topics slated for discussion:  Dburt (and thankfully other folks on social media) was perplexed/angered concerning the above “ghettoized” image of Civil Rights icon, Dr. Martin Luther King used by popular songstress, Rihanna to adorn her Twitter page.  Is this ignorance, disdain, or a youthful need to “update” for the sake of relatability?; famed attorney and author, Lawrence Otis Graham (Our Kind of People, Member of the Club) dies at 59; several weeks ago we highlighted the exemplary PBS documentary, Mr. Soul, which lends focus to not only the groundbreaking nature of the late 60s/early 70s  Black culture TV series but also its host, the late Ellis Haizlip.  Now that the doc is out, your “friendly neighborhood” hosts ponder if  a rebooted show could exist in today’s socio-political climate:

Finally…DC Films has just announced that they are bringing the character, Blue Beetle to the big screen as the studio’s first Latinx superhero movie-including Charm City Kings director, Angel Manuel Soto to helm the project; well it looks like Disney is not going to produce a live-action version of their popular animated series, Big Hero 6 based on the late 90s obscure Marvel comic book IP;  our impressions of the premiere episode of the CW’s Superman and Lois TV series and if the racial inclusivity issues raised by former show writer, Nadria Tucker are warranted; legendary filmmaker, Spike Lee switches to his producer hat for another Netflix project entitled “Gordon Hemingway & the Realm of Cthulhu”

Lastly, time willing, we will try to touch on several floating stories-TheRoot.com’s piece on the evolution of the Black superhero; a burgeoning Black news channel is positioning itself as a player in the highly competitive media landscape; and our own, “Uncanny” Daryll B. is as prescient as ever with his recent acknowledgment of the Image Excellence comic series
