Thanksgiving can be an excellent holiday where you spend time with your loved ones, feast to your heart’s content, and reflect on all the many things you’re thankful for. But it can also be an emotionally draining, really rough day for any number of reasons.

So if you got through today after dealing with toxic, tough stuff—whether it’s horrible relatives, tough conversations with conservative family members, enduring a day that celebrates the genocide of your people, working through the holidays, being separated from your family because they’re toxic, or being separated from your family because they’re incarcerated, deported, or detained—know that you are a goddamn champion, and you deserve some supportive and badass GIFs for making your way through today.

You did it.

You are a goddess.

You are a noble and poetic land-mermaid.

This Lovely Thor: Ragnarok Fanart Shows Our Heroes in a Whole New Light

https://www.themarysue.com/thor-ragnarok-fanart/

An artist on Tumblr has rendered Ragnarok‘s main cast of characters into pictures that are warm, funny, and wonderfully drawn.

I’m a longtime fan of flurgburgler’s art, so I was thrilled when she gave me permission to feature her work here. The popularity of Thor: Ragnarok has led to an outpouring of creative fanworks, with drawings, stories, memes, text posts, gifs and more popping up across social networks. The art here was some of the first I saw gaining traction on Tumblr.

This is a movie that’s made quite an impact in fandom circles, and it isn’t going away anytime soon: for some fans, it resurrected affection for characters that may have lain dormant for years (Thor: The Dark World came out in 2013, and Avengers way back in 2012); for others, it has sparked a new and nascent love affair. I’m just grateful that the Ragnarok experience gets to keep going and going online.

flurgburgler’s depiction of Loki and Thor in their Midgard “street clothes” quickly gained many likes and reblogs on Tumblr. In the movie, the scene highlights the physical differences between the two (high-fashion dark suit for Loki, casual bro wear for Thor), while letting them play out their needling banter.

“Fave dysfunctional brothers at it again”

In keeping with the Midgardian theme, she then drew our faves in contemporary dress, and honestly, I’d be fine with a whole movie where Valkyrie is out of armor and wearing some fabulously ripped jeans. As evocative as the figures are alone, what I adore about this set are the hints of the otherworldly natures that she surrounds them with: the outline of lightning for Thor, horns for Loki, the Hulk’s face for Bruce Banner, and wings for Valkyrie.

“Team Revengers goes to Midgard”

Then flurgburgler gave us our relaxed heroes all over again, dressed comfortably and grabbing a drink. I love that it feels like they’re just a chill gang hanging out here, taking in some hard-earned rest and relaxation.

“the whole squad would make excellent drinking buddies (except bruce ‘too blessed to be stressed’ banner, who can just enjoy some calming herbal tea for now)”

One of the most delightful things about Ragnarok is that it is exceptionally funny, with many scenes of both spoken and physical comedy. Chris Hemsworth has been made to play Thor in the past with a kind of wooden gravitas as might befit a Thunder God in stately Asgard and out of his element on Earth, but Hemsworth is a talented comedic actor. In Ragnarok, we finally got to see that, and here we see flurgburgler’s play on the scene where Thor is mocking the Hulk’s decorative choices:

“he was so upset about the decor”

And if you never thought to glimpse Ragnarok‘s victorious survivors in flower crowns, well, I have some news for you:

“I just wanted to draw some flower crowns man idk”

There’s a softness and dreamy quality to the art here that easily lets us envision these heroic figures in new clothes and unique situations. Even when they’re dressed in cozy sweaters or flower crowns, we still feel effortlessly connected to the characters, and the portrayals ring true, the way we might imagine them offscreen in our mind’s eye.  I don’t know if I’ll be able to think about Bruce Banner again without picturing him relaxing with a steaming cup of tea.

Be sure to check out the rest of flurgburgler’s Ragnarok art, as well as the work that she’s done in other fandoms like Star Wars, Black Sails, The X-Files, and more. If you’re on Tumblr, consider dropping by to reblog or send an admiring note. Fingers are crossed that she will continue to gift us in this vein.

Give Thanks For Coworkers and Clients With An Office Friendsgiving

http://www.blackenterprise.com/lifestyle/office-friendsgiving/

Friendsgiving

Friendsgiving has been picking up steam over the last few years as an alternative way to celebrate Thanksgiving, but it can also be a great way to show colleagues or clients your appreciation.

Throw an Office Friendsgiving with these tips from Michiel Perry, founder and editor-in-chief of Black Southern Belle:

Put Networking First

Use a serving bowl as a place for guests to drop their business cards. To encourage participation, feel free to raffle off a great bottle of winter wine.

Don’t Forget Branding

Looking to showcase a new product or your brand philosophy? Use simple place cards such as small office envelopes on paper clips. These envelopes can be a great place to give the name of dishes as well as some insight into what you are professionally thankful for to your clients this year.

Keep Friendsgiving Food Light

Since most of your clients and/or employees will be having Thanksgiving with their family, try to keep your menu light with simple dishes such as turkey caesar salad or charcuterie boards of your favorite pickled fall vegetables. And, of course, a fall-inspired cocktail is always a good start to a fun client Friendsgiving.

Get Some Help

When you are pulling together a last-minute party, don’t be afraid to get help from a local caterer. Nothing better than supporting a small business while creating a new addition to your networking list—and even better if you can use a company that your clients enjoy utilizing. If you don’t have time find a caterer, the deli section of your local gourmet store has excellent pre-made options.

Or, for an easy Office Friendsgiving, put together an after-lunch dessert and coffee display. Find a local bakery to order a pastry assortment. And create a mocktail station, with pumpkin coffee, sparkling cider, and cranberry juice. This is perfect for office colleagues who prefer to abstain and also helps avoid some dietary restrictions such as dairy and meat.

Add Festive Decor

Be sure to add a little decor to your office conference room to create a Friendsgiving that your clients will see as Instagram worthy. Grocery stores have small bundles of multi-colored pumpkins that make the perfect decorations. If you want to add even more flair, start by pulling some decor from your home such as candlesticks, champagne buckets, and various sets of drinkware.

Follow Up

An essential part of any client event is the follow-up. Be sure to send handwritten notes with a fall candy to your guests who attended to add another touchpoint for them to remember your company and the Friendsgiving.

The JUSTICE LEAGUE Cast Plays With Their Own Action Figures

http://nerdist.com/justice-league-cast-action-figures/

One of the perks of playing a superhero on the big screen is that the performers are likely to be immortalized as action figures and toys. Naturally, that was once again true when the Justice League came together for their first live-action movie. Now, a new video has captured the reactions of Ben Affleck, Gal GadotRay Fisher, Ezra Miller, and Jason Momoa as they got to handle their action figures for the first time.

Miller and Momoa seemed to be the most excited to get their hands on the Flash and Aquaman, respectively. Although the figures brought out smiles from every member of the cast. Fisher joked that his figure would cause people to fall in love with Cyborg. Affleck couldn’t resist pointing out that his Batman figure was wearing the tactical suit, which was “very uncomfortable to wear, but fun to play with.” Gadot characterized the experience as cool and weird, but she was ultimately happy with her Wonder Woman figure as well.

Poor Henry Cavill wasn’t able to take part in the fun, because the PR campaign downplayed Superman‘s presence as a “surprise” for the film. However, a previously posted video captured Miller and Fisher opening up their action figures for the first time and freaking out over how well their respective likenesses were captured. And they went even further than their fellow performers by staging a mock battle between the Flash and Cyborg.
