https://www.essence.com/news/twitter-black-women-alabama-senate-race-roy-moore For the second time in just over a year, Black women have showed up and showed out at the polls when it mattered the most.
Last-ditch efforts by politicians, celebrities, activists and everyone else not in favor of electing an accused sexual predator as the next Senator of Alabama proved victorious on Tuesday evening, as Democratic candidate Doug Jones defeated Republican candidate Roy Moore in what will surely go down as one of the most critical elections of our time.
Black voters were heavily predicted to be what made the difference in the outcome of the intense "special election," and when it was all said and done, it was Black women who carried home the win for Jones. Final polling results for the Alabama Senate race revealed 98 percent of registered Black women voted in favor of Jones, while 93 percent of registered Black male voters supported Jones as well.
Naturally, Twitter wasted no time reminding the world that this election is yet another victory brought to you largely in part by the #BlackGirlMagic originators, aka Black women.
You're welcome, Doug Jones. Now if we could only get everyone to root for, hire, respect, celebrate, speak up for, and honor Black women like this all year round....
